Does anyone know of any cool hacks for the new E class?

Hello from Ireland
I have been reading these forums for a number of weeks before the purchase so thanks again to all the knowledgeable folks on here
I took delivery of a 2010 E250 sport on Friday, have to say the car is a joy to drive. One thing that is bugging me is I cannot seem to activate blue-tooth audio streaming as suggested. I have the audio 20 and I can get into the engineering mode fine but I don't see the options other people see. The entire menu structure is different. It look's the same as the first set of screen shots on this thread:-

Do you think I need the dealer to update the firmware or is there a different way to enable streaming with this version of engineering menu ?
Thanks for the help

The dealer tested it with non-jailbrake iphone and Blackberry. My Iphone 4 is with iOS 4.2 with jailbrake. All are working okay. No need to do anymore authorization/de-authorization. What you need is to update the command software. In my case is to version:00090267606-001.
Good Luck.

The setup described here worked for me but when I am streaming music I am unable to connect the Phone via bluetooth. It seems like I can have 1 or the other at a time only. Any advice ? Is it a COMMAND version issue?

I went to my dealer today and it didnt seem like he wanted to install any update for no reason. Is there a way I do it myself or download the update from somwhere ?
I guess i would firstly need to identify what version I am running on currently and what version i need to get to, so back to square one. How do I identify what COMMAND version I am running ?

No reason? Your COMAND is not working right! Think back to every little electronic glitch you've had. For instance, I started the car the other day and there was no sound from any source until after about 10 minutes of driving. It has worked fine ever since, but obviously that should not have happened. Does Gracenotes work every time? Does the sound unmute all by itself? Do people you call sometimes have trouble hearing you? You can report all of your glitches like these and ask your dealer to investigate. Then maybe your dealer can make a case to MB that you need an upgrade.

I told him I wanted to update to the newest COMMAND version because COMMAND was not recognizing my phone when plugged in via hard wire. He said that I would need a media interface kit for $2400 to stream via BT. This SA seems like he is a rookie and wasnt really confident with what he was talking about.
Anywho ... dropped off the car with that complaint this morning and still waiting on a call back. How do I check what COMMAND version I am running ?

Sorry I can't help with version no but I have a 2009 build 2010 E550 that BT streams just fine. Works nice with phone. I would think you'd seriously risk both your car and warranty trying to do it yourself.

I posted this already somewhere in this forum but here it is again. This is a good reason to ask for the COMAND upgrade as it is an easy way to show the original software indeed does not work correctly.
When you use the NAVI and enter a POI as an address you see on the bottom of the screen tabs. The one on far left says MAP. In the original software version this tab is grayed out, i.e. it does not work.
What you should be able to do is to roll on the MAP tab and select it. This would show your chosen address on the map before you actually select it as your target address.
Above is very helpful when you are traveling on highway to your destination. Sometimes you want to make a stopover and when selection one, like a gas station, you can look at the location via the MAP tab before actually selecting it as the stop like to see how far the stop is from your route.
I had this problem with both my 2011 E350 and current 2010 E550 and both of them got fixed by the COMAND software upgrade not to mention other improvements like voice quality on phone.

Another improvement the COMAND update did for my car is that now I can see missed calls in the call lists. It still has tabs only for Dialed and Received calls but under received calls I now see a "Hangup" sign on left side of a phone number that I missed. I did not have this before the update. I could see missed calls only in my phone.

Read my post earlier in this thread. You can show them that it does not work as it is meant to be. You should be able to select the MAP tab bottom left to look at your destination before you actually select it as one. Before update it does not work, after does.

It is hard to do because someone needs to pay for it. If no fault with functionality MB says no warranty issue.

One problem .. now the iphone does not charge via the wire in the glove. I had the MB tech use his phone to verify this as well and it seems MB blocked charging functionality with the new COMMAND upgrade. Make no sense at all.. so now I have to plug in my phone to a car charger anyway.. one way or another the wire never goes away

Not that I think it should work this way, but I guess it makes a little sense if it does...

If you use USB and choose USB under Media Interface menu , your phone is charged or MP3 player . Howeever, there is a snag you can't use bluetooth audio in your phone with that method
Another thing I have experienced with my Nokia N8 is array of tracks is all the way different that it does with bluetooth audio , same goes for mp3 player too . I don't think Iphone is ever different either

Just a thought: Have you checked to see if it charges when you are using you have the "Media Interface" (or whatever the name is) selected in the Audio menu? I mean the way you used the iPhone before you had BT Audio. Maybe when you have BT Audio selected, it somehow shuts off power to the media interface cable since it is not being used.

POI or Address?

Thanks, but what happens if you just enter an address? Does it have to be a Point of Interest?
Also, does it matter if you do it manually or by voice?

Kind of a cool "trick" I found today...when you reach your destination and are ready to shut off/get out of the car, don't don't have to put the car into "P". You can just turn the key to off and take it out and the car will put itself into "P" automatically.

i think i've read it somewhere. it might not hurt the car or could possibly do some harms down the road. i don't know . but i'm just too chicken to try .
