E350 Sedan, P2, Driver's Assist, Panorama roof
Yes, I was driving and we were all watching a movie, but I had seen it several times already, so I wasn't looking at the monitor much. I glanced at it a few times, and the Attention Assist went off... No one died, there were no accidents, and everyone's safe & sound...

On November 16, 2009 at about 4:30PM PST, after about an hour and a half non-stop driving on the freeway from Zion Canyon, UT towards Las Vegas, NV, I was tired but not dosing off so I raised both my hands to stretch them. Immediately I heard the Attention Assist beap and saw the visual alert on the cluster display. It was unclear whether it detected my unresponsiveness to the steering wheel for about a second or the change of speeds or something else. But I was happy it worked. I am also not sure if it remembered my driving history for the same morning from Grand Canyon South rim to Zion Canyon (about 5 hours) with multiple stops. BTW, it was a beautiful trip we really enjoyed the ride all the way while we put the car (E350 no Distronic) to a test.

Lol, I took a loaner 2015 ML on a 6 hour trip and that coffee thing came on and a beeping sound. I was very tired and almost dozed off. It somehow knew this. I was never that tired before and it never came on in the S. It may work....

Even in the most exciting vehicle, a long journey can bring about driver fatigue. An industry first, ATTENTION ASSIST takes note of over 70 parameters in the first 20 minutes of a drive to get to know your unique driving style. As your journey continues, it can detect certain steering corrections that suggest the onset of drowsiness. It then considers a wide array of other factors, from crosswinds and road smoothness to how often you're interacting with the vehicle's controls and switches. If it all adds up to driver fatigue, ATTENTION ASSIST sounds an alert encouraging you to stop for a rest. Between 50 and 112 mph, the system identifies the erratic steering corrections drivers make as they begin to get drowsy and triggers an audible warning, and a "Time for a Rest?"
The video is pretty cool. The also did a test with 550 male and female drivers on the daimler link.

It is a marketing gimmick in MB's ill-advised quest to stay six months ahead of Kia in the "useless gimmicks" department.
It beeps at you randomly until you panick and drive into a tree. The proper setting for this (and many other) useless Mercedes gimmicks is "OFF".

About 4 weeks ago my wife and I took a 380 mile road trip to NYC in the E550. On the way back my wife drove, and after about 4 hours she said she was getting tired. Not 5 min later the attention assist came on. She toughed it out and made it home in 4hours 50 minutes which isn't bad for a 380 mile trip.

Okay, DAS Rbox has a point, I turned my coffee cup off once I found out it was smarter than me. As a DOD Police Inspector I drive an average of 3.5 hours a day in my Federally subsidized E-350, yes subsidized in Hawaii, thanks for paying your taxes. But WWMindy is on point because the Steering Column and Wheel VIBRATE which is why the audible notification is not very loud, Audible and Physical equal, Wake TFU before we have to clean you up off the pavement. This is MB technology at the forefront in safety and in concert with Honda, yeah the Japanese and Germans are at it again (I am Japanese, German, English, French, Irish, and I believe a sixth of Iroquis when my French GGPA did a fifth and hooked up with a young squaw) but regardless it is saving lives every day according to the Traffic Analysis Gurus of which I do not hang with at work but seek and count on their bean counting statistics. Technology is here to stay DAS, so enjoy the ride and enjoy the road while you still can, but do it safely in a MB.

I constantly keep it set to on but have yet to have it go off in my 2 half months of owning my vehicle. I forgot about it until my wife asked me what's the coffee cup symbol for. She's a coffee junkie, so I guess the symbol stood out to her lol.

Reviving this old thread, just to thank MB for including this in their 212 range. That one single beep caught me just as I was dozing off. I was on my way back home very late on thursday night, really only 15 minutes away from home.
This is now the second time my E350 actively kept me away from danger. The first time was the brake assist depressing the brake pedal way deeper than i should have at that moment to prevent a head-tail collision.
I guess I'm not such good a driver as I think am!

I get the coffee cup warning when I fiddle too much with Comand functions (looking back and forth to Comand screen, looking at and fiddling with controller, skipping music tracks with the stack button, etc. Do too many of these in a row, and the system thinks you're drifting off.
On long trips on the interstate, it seems to alert you after 5-6 hours, whether you keep eyes on the road or not. That's annoying, in a way, as I don't drink coffee and don't need a break. But the rest is fine for me.

Until last month, I assumed the feature was mainly a useless gimmick. When it triggered for the first time in 20 months of ownership, it accurately diagnosed my driving condition. I was very tired and frustrated after a long day of interstate driving, but I have no idea exactly what symptoms triggered the warning.
