oil consumption
curious if any others have experienced any notable oil consumption in their 212. Mine is E550 and in 3k miles seems to be down close to a quart (still not below the dipstick line). I realize this is nothing to be alarmed about and most will say any car can lose up to a quart per 1000 miles without being a problem

Yeah, don't worry about it for now. It should use less as you add more miles to the car. MB has a "within normal" usage chart somewhere, do a search.
But if it eats a quart of oil every 1k after you put on 6-10k or so, then you got an unlucky motor. fwiw, the 6.2 consumes oil a lot more than the 5.5 but still is better than 1qt/1k. Even my Porsche isn't that hungry.
p.s., your motor is the same as the W211s, so the question applies to all current 5.5s.

The engine break-in process depends strongly on the usage conditions and driving style of the customer, and in some cases, the break-in process can extend to greater than 6500 miles. MB benchmark if mileage is less than 6500 miles and the measured oil consumption is greater than 750 miles/quart; e.g. 600 miles/quart, adjust oil level to MAX and continue to observe oil consumption up to mileage reading of at least 6500 miles. If mileage is between 6500 miles and 13,000 and the measured oil consumption is greater than 2000 miles/quart; e.g. 1700 miles/quart, repair only with a complete engine replacement.
