lumbar adjustment problem!

we just got a 2010 E350 yesterday, and Ive been tinkering with the front lumbar adjustments and something seems to not be right! Once I started changing the lumbar inflation and position, it seems like the lumbar support won't properly deflate. There's always that hard lump now, in both driver and passenger seats. I cant seem to get it back to normal!

I took it in today and had a technician look at it. The drivers side lumbar isn't working at all, and the passenger side works intermittently and isn't functioning correctly when it is working. The tech doesn't quite know whats wrong obviously, but I dont understand how both sides failed on a brand new car!!

I'm taking it in next week to get it fixed.

Glad I did a search on this. I've been experiencing the same thing on my driver side (I haven't even looked at the passenger side).

I read the manual about how up and down tilt the lumbar support, and forward and back, push it out or recess it back into the seat, but it seems the upper part of the support is always out.

I'm definitely taking the car in.

I'm assuming you had your issues resolved?

Well I took the car in, and the mechanics told me all four "buttons" of the adjustment work. I said, I know that, but the top bag or whatever it is doesn't seem to deflate. I really don't think it's normal for the seat to be so uncomfortable.

I tried comparing it to the passenger seat and even a seat on the showroom floor.

I said I'd drive around a little more and would mess around with it. It just doesn't seem right, so I made an appointment for them to just take the seat covers off and check it out.

Did the seat deflate for them? Fwiw: I actually had one of the bolsters in mine stop working completely. Turned out the left side bolster popped and they replaced it under warranty.

Separately, is anyone aware of ability to get a drive dynamic seat for the front passenger?

I just have a normal seat with basic lumbar support. It *feels* like there is two air bags back there. No matter how I press the adjustment controls, the top bag doesn't seem to deflate. I can inflate the bottom bag to lessen the stress created by the top bag, but that's about it.

May be seat itself

There have been criticisms that the seats themselves are too hard.
I have noticed on mine that the center (thoracic spine) area seems hard. Have adjusted the lumbar and I can feel all the bags inflate/deflate.
Personally I prefer the old fashioned mechanical type as I could better tell what it is doing.
One step might be to back everything off and then start over. Some lumbar supports begin with pretty hard positions.

I've tried backing everything off. Either it's broken, or I have no idea how to "reset" them. I've tried every combination. I guess MB will check it out today and let me know.

Thanks

E350 Lumbar

I have had the car 1 day and I am having the same issue with the Drivers side lower lumbar. Get in my passenger seat and it deflates all the way. It's my lower of the two that won't go down all the way.
Taking it to dealer Monday.

This is an older thread but has anyone had this issue fixed.

Sorry I never posted the aftermath. It was found that the upper bag's air release valve or whatever wasn't releasing the air. So they replaced it, and it works like a charm.

Thank goodness, b/c my back was starting to feel the effects.

cool. I took mine in and they said the same thing basicly. It is a known issue. They had to order the parts from Germany. Still waiting a week later.

Oh wow, I must have lucked out that they had the parts in stock at the time. Glad you got it resolved. It's so uncomfortable when you can't deflate those bags.

Good to hear you got yours fixed!! We had the dealer deflate everything a while back, but haven't even taken the car back to get it fixed, although the dealer called us and said that MB has a fix now and to bring the car in whenever. I'll be taking it in soon.

just picked up a 2007 S65 and same issue with the drivers seat lumbar.... it is inflated in the maximum position and will NOT deflate.

unfortunately the car is NOT under warranty as it has 53,000 miles.
the good news (at least I hope) is that my mechanic strictly works on late MB's so should be a few hundred... I prey!

No cpo warranty? You are a brave soul to own that machine sans warranty .... Bet its a blast though.

Wish you luck getting it fixed.

lumbar support won"t deflate

I had the same problem with my 2010 C-Class. You can pop off the seat back (which goes on with clips), and you can see three hoses a yellow blue and red going into the air bladder. Disconnect those hoses from the bladder, then get into the seat and press hard against the back to deflate them.. More then likely the valves that connect to the hoses are shot. Hope this helps.

You do realize you just responded to help someone experiencing an issue 5 years ago, correct?

Holy thread resurrection, Batman.

Anyway, my 2010 E550 Sport P1 has the opposite issue. You press the lumbar support button and the seat makes a noise but nothing inflates. How do you pop the seat back off to take a look?

But people like me are having this same issue today in 2021. So thank God he posted that late response. Thats the point of posting and reading old threads. They help people for years to come. His answer was too late for the first guy. But it helped me deflate my seat today. GOD Bless him! 🙌
