Spare tire access

Was exploring the trunk of my new W212 and found it about impossible to get the trunk floor piece lifted up to access the spare tire. Is there a secret to this?? Anyone else try this yet??

Thanks Koningster!! However thats not the issue. On my W212. the trunk floor lifts and latches on the device from the trunk lip just as advertised. However under the trunk floor panel there is another panel with a hand hold cut out. When pulling on that to access the spare underneath it catches on a lip of metal on the rear of the trunk compartment and it seems that there is no way to slide it forward to avoid catching this lip. ??? I can actually see the aft end of the spare but cannot get this second panel out of the way to access it.

No the tabs were not loosened as I can't locate them. Seem to be well hidden if they are in fact there. I will have another look when my wife gets back with the car. By the way the first aid kir does not seem to fit behind the panel where its supposed to live. Dealer has in in the same area in the mesh holder thats there.

Found the tabs. They are really hidden. They also look kind of inadequate and will eventually tear or break if this panel is removed frequently.

Found the same problem - and it is a problem. Per the salesman it is normal to have to jerk hard to get the cover off and then to have to bend it a lot to get it back in.
Not designed well at all.
My first aid kit was also in the mesh holder. I think they do this so you will know you have it. It will fit behind the door, but you have to force it in a little.

I too am not pleased with the set up. However I found that when you release each tab the panel does come out easier with no heavy pulling required. Would have been better if they used a mechanical twist fastener. Hopefully I will never have to access the spare tire.

spare tire cover

Is everyone noting they have the spare tire cover, because I don't in my E550.

When I lift up the trunk floor cover, the spare tire is right under there and I don't see any cover (see pic).

I am wondering if this is something the dealer will get for me if others indeed have it.

Anyone else not have one present in the new E class?

Mine is same.... It looks like my E550 more empty because no battery is inside there. My E550 is 4matic

Where is battery in E550 4matic?

I think one reason for the "extra" tire cover in the E350 RWD models is because different versions have different things in the compartment. Apparently some cars come without a spare, but with a pump or something. Others have a different type spare and I think the tank for the fluid for the diesel will go back there as well. Guess some have a battery also.
My E350 RWD has a mini-spare.
Bottom line is that the "second" or inside cover should have been better designed for ease of use on the cars that do have it.

In my W212 E550 4matic, the battery was under the hood.

If you look from the front of the car, it is all the way in back left. Near the firewall.

Its has a plastic cover.

Our 2014 E550 4matic has a no-latch trunk floor covering that just lifts up. No latch, no handle movement, and no hold-down of any kind. Seems fine to me, since I have no urge to have a latch. But under, the floor covering, I find the tool set impossible to open up. The owner's manual says a lot about replacing the tire, jacking the car, etc., but nothing about how to get the tire changing tools released from whatever is holding them down. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
