A little off on the details there.....the SLK350's engine doesn't have DI. It was just re-tuned with a higher redline for more hp. The new V6 in the CLS concept is a totally new engine.
The new 5.5L AMG V8 has nothing to do with the current 5.5L V8 in the 550 cars. The new AMG V8 based on the upcoming V6/V8 engine family. Totally new design as is the new V8 coming for the current group of "550" cars.

i mean, i figure it's not the same V8 engine with blowers, but something similar in size. they are something to look forward too.

Spoke to my dealer this AM and now they know nothing about the new engine. MB expected DI engines for 2011 models but fuel problem with our gas may not be resolved. My car was to be scheduled for last ten days of June but no confirmation yet. I would expect same engine as last year. They will not replace engine in mid year. This would cause too much frustration with early buyers. If I were a betting man, I would say no change until 2012 model year. I am happy with the current model and the engine is not a big issue for me. If it is an issue for others, it may be better to follow KA's advice and purchase the 550.

I am in the market for an E350 as well and located in Canada. I was at the dealership today and just received a call this evening from my salesperson, he states he was in touch with MB Canada today and there will be no changes to the engines in 2011. Bad news is he can't find a car with the color and options I want.

Here it is, the official word from MB. New engines in S-Class/CL-Class this year for model year 2011, next year for all other models.

Wow, so the upcoming '11 MY S-Class will have the TT. Anyone know what they'll call it? I assume they can't do away with the "550" number, as they've changed around the numbers enough, they should probably stay consistent in keeping the cache of the "550" that they've built up. Also, especially in the U.S's "bigger=better" show-offy market, I don't think they'll be able to lower the number. What is kind of disappointing if they keep the 550 name, is how M-B has always used the numbers to designate the size of the engines, which kept things in line with "form=function". Using the "550" name while having a 4.7 would further enhance M-B's new directions which have kept building in the recent generations, being that the brand is first and foremost influenced by Marketing aspects.
As for the V6, kind of disappointing they're dragging the V6 models with the same 268 HP version of the 3.5, especially considering it's not like the next 350's' will have completely different motors or anything.

they should have kept it 500 like they did in europe and everywhere else
i don't think the engine change will affect the 550 line as much as the 63s. AMG is more performance oriented so the "performance" buyers will look out for that.
