GOVERNOR AT 130!
#26
Huh... Thanks for the info. Mine is not 4Matic and does have the sport package, but the tires they fitted from the factory were the all-season, and thank God! The weather has been rough in Germany and the tires have performed great! Much better than buying a new set of Winter Tires right off the bat. I guess I will have to ask my dealer, but do you think they will bump up the governor to 155mph if I buy a set of Summers this year?
Cheers!

how does one go about getting an ecu flash? Are there any other benefits/things to ask for when doing this (other than higher rated tires)

you can get one from companies such as renntech, kleemann, powerchip etc. from what i've read not only you get more hp and torque, but there is improvement in throttle response, redline is increased, power kicks in at lower rpms, and better fuel economy (i'm not so sure about the last one, idk how that would work).

It's true. In essence you are loading a brand new engine management software into your car. Software which has not been tested by MB and will make the engine rev higher, enable you to accelerate faster, make the engine burn more fuel, etc... Premature wear and tear might occur because of the extra stress you engine might experience. MB doesn't want to be responsible for this. If you were to flash your ECU make sure you flash it with software from a reputable firm (like Renntech) because their software have been tested thoroughly (ECU upgrades in a big chunk of their business) and they *might* offer an extended warranty for certain parts of the engine (you should check with them).

There seems to be a lot of misconception on the limiter here. The biggest reason for the upper, as is, is to do the laws, lawyers over here. Its not based on the tires. Tires are fitted to be capable of the speeds the car is certified for. In addition most US based drivers do not get the high speed driving training, experience that Germans get.
By some of the arguments shown here; sport = 155mph, is negated by the fact that V speed ratings are <149mph. Now STFF for the sport package tires on my sport package E and you'll see that those claims made are contradictory; ref liability of tire not capable to handle car..

No, it is in regards to the sport package vs tire rating vs limiter argument brought forth.
It was said that sport package cars are limited at 155. Well, the tires on my sport package E had a rating for <149. Now, what kind of lawsuit would that be if the car is driven at 155 with tires that are not able to handle it while involved in a mishap; and the OEM put them on a car when new. Think about it.

Mines not... :P
P30's are "limited" at '186' or something, but there's no actual limiter on my car... But the reason I am posting, these cars, even the AMG's, come with **** tires, some deal they have going with conti or something. Dump the tires and get something better, I run PS2s (you can read about it in my sig)
