Would you change your mirror?

Recently, MBUSA did a mid-year switch of the E Coupe side mirrors on their 2010 models. Now, these side mirrors are the same ones as the new E convertible and the sedan/wagon. While most people wouldn't care too much or even notice this change, I was probably only the crazy one that noticed the difference and stood there at the autoshow arguing with the MB reps (various local MB dealer folks that help out with the autoshow), who said I was incorrect about this change and that the mirrors has always been in the styles of the sedans/wagon and convertible.

Long story short, I have a choice of replacing these side mirrors to the new style. Would you make this switch?

Keeping one thing in mind, a guy recently sold a mint condition (unopened) Nintendo/Bandai $29.95 video game that was released in the early 80's (that he bought back then) for $40,000. This game was one of the only 200 copies that was later recalled by Nintendo. Do you think if we keep our E coupe long enough that it will also become a collector's item? Since only a number of us own the version with the "older" side mirrors?....

I think the old ones looks cooler. More unique, to use the same boxy ones all over the E-class range is probably just a way for MB to save money.

Old ones are more individual and personal to the car. The square ones are simply the corporate mirrors used across the ranges, saves M-B $$.

And to answer your second question, I don't think it will be an collectors item or gain value as it ages. Mass produced autos will not ever see this benefit. Limited edition, limited production run of a rare exotic supercar will enjoy this appreciation however. Also, more commonly, a refresh in side mirrors will not affect pricing at all. Imagine 20 years in the future if someone would pay you an exponential amount more than the price you paid for your used vehicle only because it had slightly different side view mirrors.

I stole these pictures from the C207 section.

I am so glad our car has the "old" style. The elephant ears from the sedan is out of proportion IMO. Stupid Euro regulation on these mirrors

OMG, old ones for sure. New ones look like someone got mirrors off of a completely different car and screwed them on.

On the "new one" it looks like they are folded in?

The shape of the old one looks pretty good I must admit, but I have to say the turn signal portion looks a little off. They are too straight to blend in with the rounder mirror, whereas the new one is boxier but the lines work better.

Overall I do like the new side mirrors though. Not sure how much money MB could have saved doing this change however, seems negligible.

The new ones seem to be a better fit to the design of the car. However, they both work pretty well so I can't imagine there is much of a difference. The larger mirror on the facelifted S-Class seems to also be a better fit than the one on the earlier pre-facelift model.

I guess I just don't like the newer boxy mirrors so much. I also found the pre-F.L S-Class had much more fitting, and elegantly shaped mirrors, the new ones look like they fit best on the angular W212, but M-B has them on about every model now.

Yeah, looks like the early E-coupe mirrors were lifted from the SLK.
