Mine just happened again! The usual 3 weeks!

I'm going to go in and get it replaced like Steve. I hope it works.

Steve any updates?

The 2011 W212 has a new rear view mirror. Ask your dealer to replace the mirror with the 2011 model. I'm sure MB is aware of the situation and are simply dragging their feet on a campaign change for all cars.

thanks for the info! That's great. I'll schedule it with them next week! :-)

I asked them about it, and they said, never heard of it. if they don't do a campaign about it, they should at least do a TSB about it.

Ours lost it three times and we fixed it with the dealer for free and so far, no problems. Been several months already now.

Just took delivery of my 2011 E550 P2, etc. The manual shows how to setup the compass function in the mirror for different regions in the US. It describes pushing a button next to the passenger LED spot light. I do not see a button, but there is an amber LED light in the hole. Is there supposed to be a button or does the compass get set from the GPS?

I spoke to my dealer today about the homelink system (separate thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...vs-europe.html) and he told me that the reason there are 3 buttons on the left side of the mirror is because the garage doors in the US are on 3 different frequencies. So, if one button doesn't work, then one of the other 2 will.

Honestly, I've never heard of this... Nor does it explain why you all are able to connect for a period of time and then lose the code.

The dealer will not replace one mirror with another (different) mirror. Also, the new mirror loses the compass (it gets moved to the COMAND display or instrument cluster depending on the model).

The reason for 3 buttons is to give customers with up to 3 garage doors the option to open/close any one of the 3.

Could you imagine pressing One button and having all 3 doors open/close.

Each door does have a different code that is why the opener remote that comes with the door has 3 buttons.

Wow, you don't have to be a high-line car dealer employee to know this.

On another thread an owner of a 2011 E550 says he has a compass in his mirror. Is this Canada specific? I expect my 2011 by next Wednesday and I will confirm but I would be surprised if the compass is gone. My understanding was that the mirror changes were to correct errors for rolling codes.

The compass IS there on all E550 for 2011. I just posted the setup activation on another thread.

Nice try of them to pull a quick one. I've been through this resetting probably a dozen times now. I've tried every single of the 3 buttons, they all rest! Not only that, but when it resets, I notice all 3 get reset at the same time.

Shoot, been too busy this week to call dealer (got a roof spoiler and my rear diffuser in), but sounds like there is some discrepancy here. I'll call dealer next week and keep you posted on how it turns out.

My E550 has lost its setting once. Also, only one of the 3 buttons work and it works only within 20 feet or so of the garage door. My old sears remote works from the street.

I have a E350 MY 2010 and I can set up the Compass in the Mirror and I am using 2 of the 3 buttons to control 2 different garage doors (one is mine and one is of a family member). The little books they give you are a great source of information on setting up these two functions. Got a laugh out of the multiple US garage door frequencies; I bet the tech that dreamed up that one was laughing every time he used it.

The mirror assembly for 2011 is different than that used in 2010. The instructions on page 306 in the Operator's Manual does not show the correct mirror for 2011. The activation button has been replaced by another mechanism and access point.

It is a running change. The change has nothing to do with homelink.

This is what frustrates me about MBUSA (and Canada, too, it seems.) It's like they can never communicate with dealers, and dealers never have a straight answer for consumers. I'd be pretty livid if my homelink didn't function. It's a basic commodity on pretty much all cars now. So what is everybody supposed to do? Carry around spare remotes?

The issue of MB dealers lack of enthusiasm was addressed in the past on the AMG Private Lounge. MBUSA said they are working on it. But as long as dealers move the product, there doesn't seem to be a lot of motivation

Thank heaven for this forum. I've taken my 2010 E550 in twice for this issue and the service writer looks at me like I'm crazy - he reports that I'm the first person he has heard of experiencing problems with Homelink system.

So, am I to assume from these threads that Patch 1411 is not a for sure fix, but having the review mirror replaced is?

No, replacing the mirror did not fix the problem for me but that was several months ago before the 2011 models were out. Car is back at the dealership now working on it again as not only do I lose the garage door setting, it will not maintain Bluetooth connectivity to my Blackberry.

That's odd. So it really is the 2011 model that fixes it. OK. Oddly enough mine hasn't gone out for a month now. It's a record, knock on wood. (I would be pissed if it goes out tomorow). Haven't gotten around to changing it yet.

so the 2011 mirrors are already available?

Just went out again! 2 weeks in a row! I got an appointment tomorrow for my 10K service. Will ask them to replace mirror. And get that rattling fixed! https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ggestions.html
