New MB Engine News...Yet Again
Been trying to catch up with my RSS reader and saw I had a bunch of new MB engine related new posts. Too tired to read them just skimmed through. They don't say anything model specific (with the exception of the S65 AMG which we already knew) but they promise the new engines in cars this fall. Enjoy...

My guess is going to be a little later then because the E class had its share of design changes not too long ago....
Anyway, I cant wait to see these engines go into production cars....love those power improvements along with added efficiency!!!
* 4.7l TT V8 is rated at 435 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, with a 22 percent improvement in fuel economy.
* 3.5l V6 makes 306 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque with a 24 percent jump in fuel economy.
VS.
The the current NA 5.5L V8 producing 382 hp and 391lb-ft of torque and the 3.5L V6 engines making 268 hp and 258lb-ft of torque.

The new TT V8 engines produces more torque than the current NA 63 AMG engines, 465 lb-ft of torque to be exact. Ironically, the new V8 produces the same amount of torque in the supercharged 5.5-liter engine in the E55.
F10 BMW I6 and V8 engines:
The 3.0l DI produces 306hp with 295lb-ft of torque in the 535i, and the TT 4.4l engine with only 407hp and 442 lb-ft in the 550i...hmm, it looks like the BMW is a bit behind in the V8 department.
So now, the next winner in the upcoming reviews is.....

Finally some definitive information!!!!
So the CL550, S550 and CL63 and S63 all get new turbo V8s.
It seems the C350, ML350, E350 etc. will all have to wait until the 2012 model year.
Kinda sad since they need the power more than the 550 V8 cars do.
I wonder if MBUSA will go back to S500, I doubt it. It sure won't be S470.

Looks likes the V6 engines will be updated by 2011 but not the V8s for the E Class:

Update: Mercedes USA spokesman Rob Moran has confirmed that both the CL and S-class models in the U.S. will get the new twin turbo V8 in Q4 of this year with other models getting it in 2011. Models currently powered by a V6 engine will get the new V6 beginning in 2011.

I have a 2011 E350 on order for my wife but if the new engine is coming out in Jan. I will potpone my order. Furthermore if the new engine comes in Jan. they will make that car a 2012 model. It would certainly affect the depreciation on the 2011. BMW is notorious for doing that. The 2011 3 series is already on sale.

A change in 2011 as means MY 2012. Since mercedes likes to change their models near the end of summer one could estimate they're still well over a year away. To me DI would be nice vs. what I have now but reliability has been proven to be strong on their current 3.5 engines.

With that efficiency and torque improvement it makes one wonder why would MB need to introduce the E350 Bluetec, with its urea injection req't,which now seems to be delayed to Dec 2010.
Also, contrary to an indication on a previous post, BMW will have a 528i for the MY2011, coming out in Sept.

I do not mind to get E with current engine, it has plenty power for everyday driving. However the promise of better fuel economy makes big sense. I am getting only 18mpg with current engine (city drive), and it should be 21mpg with new engine.
