HTC Droid Incredible won't work with E550

I spent an hour yesterday at the local M-B dealership... They can't seem to get my new HTC Droid Incredible to work with the bluetooth in my 2010 E550. My wife is giving me a hard time becuase her new phone linked on the first try with her new Acura MDX.

Is there any fix to this? How long does it take M-B to come up with a software fix? How come the Germans aren't keeping up with the Japanese in car electronics???

Any help out there?

could their be a quirk with the Droid or yours in particular where a firmware update could make a difference? you didnt mention if your wife also has same phone. Had no problem with iPhone 4 and 3gs and blackberries in my e550. We also have an MDX (08) and I generally find the the system works/sounds better in the benz.

I agree though - in general benzes and a bmw 650 vs japanese cars I've owned the Japanese tend to have much more reliable electronics. My 650 in particular was a basket case.

What kind of problem do you have? Pairing? Syncing address book? Yes, MB has problem with BT, my HTC touch can be only paired with certain glitches sometimes. However it is fully functional with BMW BT including address book, call waiting and so on. So I would recommend to take simpler phone for your wife.
Regarding sound quality, I do not have MDX so can't compare, but MB has very good sound quality for calls, I have no complains.

The phone simply won't pair. The phone can see the car and the car can see the phone but they won't pair. I can't do anything on the phone.

My comment about the MDX above -- my wife and i bought identical phones and she has full function in her car.

The local M-B folks said they would look into the problem but I haven't heard back from them yet.

When I raised problem with my phone to MB, I got answer that pair is only critical and has to be fixed, the rest functionality isn't guaranteed. I have also pairing problem with my HTC. The time I need to type secret code is very limited, just few seconds, so pairing doesn’t happen unless I am very quick. I use very simple code like 1111, so I succeed after several attempts.
I guess MDX and BMW use the same electronic vendor, it is why the makes support the phones without a problem.

I have an HTC Evo and it was pairing with my 2010 E350 perfectly for the last few weeks. Today it decided to not pair up so I tried everything, including deleting it from the list, and now I cannot get it to authorize the phone. The car sees the phone, requests the password which I put into both the car and the phone, then it says cannot authorize phone after about 30 seconds.... I updated to the android 2.2 firmware a week or so ago so I am wondering if that had some effect on it.... Sucks that it goes from working fine to not at all in one day.

It has to do with Android 2.1 which has an incomplete Bluetooth implementation. I currently am using a Droid Eris with OS 1.5. The day I picked up my 2010 E550, my sales rep could not get it to pair either. We tried for 30 minutes - he sheepishly had to give up. Just too bad as I came from an '09 X5 whose Bluetooth was flawless. Want the kicker? Android 2.1 works in my 2010 GL450 - figure that one out. Once I reverted back to Android 1.5, everything was gold again.

I was just able to pair it to my 2010 ML350.... Do you think the dealer can be of any help? Is there a way to reboot the comand system?

Another thing to try is remove it from the list of phones on the head unit. Remove the battery from the phone. Put battery back in, let the phone start up and try pairing it. Has worked a few times with 204, 212,etc..

I was finally able to get it to connect but now every time it connects, the phone prompts me that MB bluetooth wants to access the phonebook of the phone. If I say yes, it disconnects and I have to completely delete it from the comand and re-add it again. If I say no, it connects and everything works fine but each time I get in the car and the phone reconnects, it prompts me to answer that question again. I check the box on the prompt that says always do not connect, but it still asks again each time. I guess I'll run it by the dealer this week because the ML does not ask that question and simply connects each time like mine used to... Such a pain to deal with this stuff.

I have the HTC EVO running Android 2.2 which pairs all the time with my E550 but I can't access the address book on the phone (i.e. previous phone calls, etc. which I could access on my HTC Hero running 1.5). Mind you, it imports it just fine and I can dial using my MB address book.
Also, when first trying to pair it took me a little while getting the right order of phone/car recognizing each other. To be honest, I am not sure what the order that finally works was but I remember it being glitchy at first (running Android 2.1).
I have NOT had anything happen differently since the 2.2 upgrade a couple of weeks ago so I doubt that is the cause of the new problems.

vapers,

Glad to hear that 2.2 is working for you. Phone books can be imported to COMAND through the use of a memory card.

Droid X

Hoping this all works out because I just got back from the Verizon store and HOLY S.... the Droid X makes my BB Storm look like a bag phone. Looking to place my order, but will let it coincide with the arrival of my '11 E350 so I have 30 days to switch to another phone if it doesn't work.

HTC Eris Droid version 2.1 does not work with 2010 C300

It seems like lot's of MB owners are having trouble with the Google bluetooth phone connections. I can tell you for certain, having spent considerable time with both MB and Verizon that the Droid HTC Eris worked just fine when I was running version 1.5 of the software. The moment I upgraded to 2.1, it stopped working and NO ONE has been able to fix it. The Verizon tech took my phone out to his car, paired the phone, connected, called the store and said "Software incompatibility problem, not our fault." Took the car to MB, talked to electronics tech, who said "Oh, there's no power coming off your bluetooth antenna, it's compatible but it a hardware problem, not our fault."

My advice is to avoid buying an Android phone if you own a MB. Being in the software business, I can tell you that Google doesn't know hoo haa about firmware or operating systems. Virtually any other phone will pair and connect. So now I can pay full retail ($500+) for a new smart phone and $160 to cancel the old phone line.

How did you downgrade to 1.5? I was told by Verizon there is no way to do that? Android 1.5 worked perfectly in my 2010 C300, 2.1 stopped cold and no one can fix it.

My Motorola Droid running android 2.2 pairs fine with my 2011 E550. Shares the address
book from the phone as well as business cards. No mods needed. Just worked

I guess here is more Benz problem than Google. All my phones have no problem to pair, synchronize AB, call waiting and other features with BMW. I know it is cheaper to replace phone than car, but next time buy BMW and you won't have problems with phones.

Dema, are any of your phones running Android 2.1 or 2.2? I'm either going to go with Android or stay with Apple. But I'm also thinking of the new F10 M5 when it comes out (and sell the E63.)

(LOL. What's more important to me? The phone or the car? )

Droid incredible works fine with e350, so it should work with e550. Are you having problem with droid incredible only? have you tried a different phone or ask your friend?

I guess both are important and why do we need the or dilemma to be or not to be?

My Windows mobile phone perfectly works with BMW and other cars, all functions are available and I can do call just speaking a name from address book. Why the same phone can be only paired with MB and nothing more? Yes, if my primary car was MB, then I was pushed to change a phone. It looks like MB has certain hidden agreement with certain phone vendors. I have no other explanation.

It won't work with my 2011 E350 either !!! Worked just fine with my 2009 E350....even the salesman was able to pair his Motorola Droid X. Mine will pair, then seems to create a conflict with the Bluetooth audio player in the phone (even after I deselect it to play audio) the audio player plays random music on my phone, then screws up the Bluetooth of the phone too !! I have to do a battery pull to get the phone to work properly after. Sucks.

Those are well known Droid operating system issues. Unfortunately Google is not happy with the Droid vendors for modifying the platform too much and not following the standard. We are continually playing cat and mouse with Droid vendors and Bluetooth profiles in our own devices we make for Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and BMW. It is very much the wild west when it comes to Droid. Hopefully these guys will get it all in control. Blackberry and Apple are not all wrong for controlling the system, it makes for a better and more constant and stable user experience.

I had all of these issues and more (I have an EVO Shift). One day it suddenly stopped streaming audio and then stopped pairing the phone altogether. Removing it from the BT list doesn't work, you have to delete the BT memory from the phone.

To do this, go to Settings, Applications, Bluetooth Share. Clear Data and then try to re-pair. Before I re-paired, I deleted the phone from the car and then rebooted the phone. It will go through the questions again about allowing access to the phonebook. After this, it also FINALLY downloaded all of my phonebook. Has worked flawlessly ever since.
