Paint Quality
I've driven many Japanese cars and needless to say that their paint is not very good. How are the paint on our Es? Already, I've noticed some dots on my brand new 2011. These are raised and size of a needle point. I detail my own cars so I naturally see all imperfections.

Actually I feel that my 212 has better paint and finish quality than the 210 and 211 that I once had. In fact my brilliant silver W210 was horrible and the 211 I feel was average.

From what I've read on the detailing forums (detailing is my hobby) German clearcoat is significantly harder than the Japanese clearcoats. I have a black MB and a black Infiniti and although I have haven't had the opportunity to do a full detail on the Benz I've wiped it down with a spray sealant and it seems to be harder.

I'm just a bit disappointed that I've seen a few imperfections in the new E. Mainly on the side mirror. Found a couple of raised dots.

I vote for infiniti as the worst. It took me more than a month to get all the swirl marks out of my black paint. I'm sure you already know this but have you tried a clay bar. I've heard in shipping sometimes the paint can pick up small particles of all kinds of things. Maybe worth a try.

Very FAST!
I have aslo found a couple raised areas in the paint (specific to the passenger door). Looks as if the paint was applied while debris was on the door. Very small, but to a perfectionist it stands out. Not to mention the fact of the amt I paid for the car.

Take the car back to the dealer to repair imperfections. Usually the problem is in the clear coat and is easy to repair.
In my case both E's have superb finish and I find the finish is harder than BMW and does not chip as easily.

Is it possible that the dealer damaged the mirror and replaced it with a repainted one. If it was a poorly done respray, little raised bubbles can happen in the paint. Do you have any pictures?

The actual paint looks great, and the clear seems very hard.
However, I too have noticed maybe a tiny "dot"/imperfection or two, and one of the edges on the trunk has some "excess" bubble-y paint that you can see when the trunk is opened. I can literally peel or "pop" it, but then I'm afraid the actual metal would be exposed, in that tiny area.
