Leasing?: How to increase mileage allowance?

Can someone tell me the best and most cost effective way of purchasing increase in annual mileage from 12k to 15k? i'm 10 months into my 3 yr lease. i've been splitting mileage with my other car so only have 10k so far. thinking about just primarily driving one vehicle. tried searching but didn't see anything. thanks

Read your lease agreement.

Call MBFNA to add a mileage amount to the existing lease at contract anniversary. It will cost a bit more than the original per mile cost, but quite reasonable.

I don't think that your response was relevant to the question. You've already stated previously that you know nothing about leasing.

Just a couple things to keep in mind:

Obviously don't do this if you think you might buy out the car at the end of the lease cause the miles won't matter at that point. But also, if you think you might flip the car before the end of the lease you may not need to worry about the miles either. If you trade it in to another dealer for example they just get a flat rate buyout that doesn't factor in mileage.

Also, Toyota financing used to forgive the mileage at the end if you leased another car from them. Don't know if they still do or if any other manufacturers will do this but it's worth asking.

When I asked this same question upon leasing my last car they told me that there was little difference between the miles bought now and miles bought for overage so it really depends on the terms of your particular lease. If there isn't a huge price break to buy them up front then by all means don't! Put away a little extra every month to cover it but you don't want to pay for miles you don't drive so I say wait and see.

Hope this helps and as always.... ymmv!

thanks for the response. so i called mbfna, there's no extra perk for purchasing miles ahead of the end of lease. it's still 0.25/mile over initial annual allowance. total is the same, just spread over remaining months of lease. i remembered when i was looking @15k option, it was only $20-25/mo additional. was hoping i can still do something like that.

i won't be keeping the vehicle as i'll be leasing another one at the end of the lease.

for anyone interested- here's the math for increases from 12k to 15k:
$750/yr or $2250/3yrs

consider trying to unload this one on leasetrader.com

Lets someone assume the lease on this one and you go get another. Only issue is whether or not you put a lot of money down to begin with.
