Can someone confirm this issue for me.

Another question fellas! Yesterday when I was trying to pinpoint the rear deck rattle with the audio off and I found another issue. When I was at idle and I turn the steering wheel all the way to the right OR left, I get what I presume to be a power steering pump whine. I researched it on here and it is very very common issue in general with MB's. I called my dealership and I was told that ALL E350's do it and it is normal. I have never had this issue in other branded cars I drove. Their advice was to never fully turn my steering wheel either side as this can lead to power steering pump failure as doing so can apply undue stress on the pump.

Can someone verify this for me and see if your cars have the same whine? Let me know.

Thanks guys!

That is an interesting position to take....." oh don't worry mr. customer, it's okay, that's normal".... huh wha???!!

perhaps there is some validity......time will tell eh? hope all is well!.........
have faith in the car gods to watch over your new car! LOL........(not a religious nut)

But I guess I would also understand the occurrence to be unaccommodating.......I too will have a watchful eye when my car arrives.....yes, less than thirty days......that gives me thirty days to 1) build a new driveway 2) get a nice car port and 3) eradicate all squirrels (joke)

also I'd add my appreciation of the bashing head people, that is one of favorites.....

happy trails

It is not unusual for many makes to whine when the wheels are turned to the stop position. I think it is power steering belt slipping. In any event it is normal. I only hear it when my wife is driving because she tries to make the wheels turn 360*.

Yes I just saw that recall, thanks! I will be contacting my dealership about it. My steering wheel does seem hard to turn when completely stopped but I always thought it must be a MB characteristic or their vision of what a sports luxury car's steering wheel should mimic.

This advice applies to all cars with power steering. It's probably in the owner's manual somewhere.

Exactly, it is well explained in Owner's Manuals. Unfortunately this requires reading... (better I stop here).

I can't help with the power steering question, but I can say my E had a ton of rattles. I thought one rattle was coming from the rear deck but It turned out to be the pano roof. For some reason the sound played tricks on me. When I closed the sunshade it would go away, it was coming from the sunshade when it was rolled up. Might be your problem if you have a pano roof...

Yes I have NOT read the manual...lol, lets not visit this animal from another thread but the reason why it caught me off guard was because none of my other cars ever did this even though it was in the manual.

On another note, thanks for making me feel better with all the affirmation that this is normal and I will try my best not to turn the wheel all the way. In Mass a lot of major streets have concrete or barrier dividers so there are times where we need to make some U-turns and its hard not to turn the wheel all the way to one side.
