So now that you've got your nice new W212.. If you could do it over again, would you?

I was just thinking about this the other day.

Knowing what I do now, if I could go back in time, or if someone offered me the ability to "return" my car, and get all my money back, would I make the same choice/buy the same car?

I'm leaning toward yes. At the moment, the only car that would give it a run is an F10 535i, which has motor that would make way for more fun, but considering that isn't really an area of priority, I think the E outweighs it all in all for me. My initial #1 pick was a CPO W221 with AMG Pack, but now that I've had the E, and have seen the two side by side, etc. I prefer the W212's styling ever so slightly, which says a lot, as I love the W221. Not to mention, the slightly newer tech (not a deal maker though for me), and the fact that I got it brand new.

My only dissatisfaction with the W212 remains to be the fact that MBUSA makes it near impossible to option one to look "unique" at all.... Aside from Pano, and opting for a Luxury Pack for the most part. Would be nice if they kept it like the old days, where the AMG Package was a costly option, and we had the Avantgarde package under it ("Appearance Package"), then the Luxury trim as standard. Made for more diversity and more fun to spot the differences.
Anyway, that's my take.

With the issues I am having with my car and the way I am currently being treated by MBUSA, I don’t want to buy another Benz. But there is no other car that I could see myself driving. I am currently looking at my options but there is no other car I would rather drive. The 5 series is boring, it looks too much like the outgoing model, it has no style and it doesn’t present itself to be much more than a grocery getting German Toyota. My current options are BMW X6, E550, and Infiniti M56. All other cars are too expensive, too boring, too common, too cheap, or not enough HP.

If I could do it over, I would definitely get the P2 Package and get Palladium Silver rather than Black. I love the Black with Almond interior for it's classy looks. However, it's a pain in the *** to keep clean and you can barely notice the pano roof. I would also like to have Parktronic. That would be helpful when it comes to parking in the city. But it's a Benz. Life's good

K-A, if I had to do it all over again I would have gone straight for an S550. I drove one yesterday and I won't even go near how much I'd get slammed, even with the incentives.

I obviously have made the choice. I bought a second E350 4Matic. However I could have been equally happy with the 535ix even though I am not fussy of the body style. Once the novelty wears off the MB, it's just another car. The same applies to most cars with a few exceptions like a Porsche 911.

+1

The 911 (and all its variants over the years) is the only car that has ever truly excited me to both drive and own.

The AMG E63 makes an E Class a much more fun grocery getter over the non-AMGs, but it's still primarily a grocery getter. (CLK BS, SL BS, and SLS, etc., are a bit of a different story.)

But in the end the W211/W212 are everyday sedans. Well built, etc., but just not that dramatically different from other sedans out there. I agree that they really are just another car. One's choice between BMW, Audi, and a few of the Japanese marques won't be that radically different. Just get what works for you at any given moment in your life.

fwiw, I personally don't go by brand or marque but by the model, when I buy a car.

Sounds like the line from the movie "Risky Business":

I was incredibly lucky to find a car that had 99% of what I wanted and 0% of what I didn't want in a dealer demo. Yes I would buy the same thing again, but yes I would add the driver assist package and night vision package to the same car if the option was presented.

That sucks to hear man. Hopefully MBUSA will do what they can to win a fair and lucrative customer back to them.

I do agree about the 5'er. I actually think it's a beautiful design, but you have to really study it to get there. It has had a shockingly low impact level on the road, I can't even tell when one passes me buy.... Which isn't great for a new body of a legend like the 5-Series. I do think that the art in the design will start to really show off when the car gets older.... I.e it's designed to withstand time very well. The M-Pack MIGHT help out the presence-factor, but I didn't really like the design of it.

Yeah, nothing drives like the S, of course.

They are knocking prices down on them like CRAZY, but of course it'll still be a nice bit higher than even a loaded up E550.

I guess then we shall all give up on life, untill we own a Porsche 911.

I have my sights set on a Porsche, however it's a 935 Slant Nose Turbo. Just waiting on the ol' Brother to offer it to his 'lil Brother as a good grace.

E-CLASS
For me I have not got my W212 yet (Will receive it at the end of Nov) but I wish that I could trade it for S-2010, Not that the E is not good for me it just that the S is hell of a car just by looking at it and being in it.

Yeah, I was very close to getting an S before my E. The E just won out in rationality at the end, although I did end up paying more for it than I would have payed for the CPO S I was originally going for.

To op: I would most likely do the same thing again. Probably would cross shop the 550 more, ESP when it comes in 550xi form. When I bought my e550 in November I didn't have this option. This being said I am very happy with this car and no looking back.

The comments here on s550 are interesting. That thought crossed my mind too. What I can't get over is I can't understand why an s550 optioned like my (loaded) e550 costs 30 grand more. The 750 and a8 don't seem to have the same degree of markup

DAMN! My pleasure man. Glad to see I could be of such "help". Lol.

S-Class is NEVER an old mans car. All nice cars are "old mens/womans cars", because they cost too much for "young people" to afford. Who cares who the demographic that buys it is, as long as it's a nice whip, it's a nice whip. And the W221 is a GORGEOUS "whip"!

Since you haven't taken delivery of your new car you should have no problem working a deal with your dealer for the S. You won't be happy with the E if every day you are wishing you had bought the S. Go ahead, pull the trigger on your top pick.

Sorry to hear about your challenges, back in 92 I had some challenges with a 420 SEL and I got a little bit of a run around (I really hate that crap). I wrote to the Chairman in Germany (identified the problem, people, dealerships, etc) and a few weeks later I got a call and the *&%& starting rolling down hill so fast, they were throwing people/extras at me.

Try to find an address for the chairman (MBUSA will give the HQ address to you), BTW send it Fed-Ex or signature required. PS tell them you expect service like this from the Asian manufactures (Hyundai or ?) but not MB (they hate this). Good luck, it worked for me.

2010 E350 Luxury Sedan, Engine 272 (V6)
Cool Yes, but qualified

Took me well over a year of research and test driving to decide on the 2010 E350, but it was my top choice when I purchased it in Nov. 2009. Still would be at 11 months and 5,750 miles.
My major concern is with the costs of services by MB dealers and having to take the car in at 12 months for full services regardless of mileage.
Other concern is that some options should really be standard on a car in this class-without adding to the cost.
Probably might have gotten some more options, but maybe not.
My second choice was a Lexus LS460 and it is a very nice car, but costs too much more than an E350. Know that LS is a step up, but the GS had too many negatives to even consider.
As for S class, isn't the base on that nearly $90,000?
Still like the car and have had no problems at all with it or any part of the P1 package.
