I for one was going to order and S4 but became very frustrated by the way they stripped the car down technology wise. Adaptive lighting for example. The E class not only gets adaptive lighting but also controls the high and low beams!

Again, I have owned an a4, a6, Q7 so this is my first MB.....and I could not be more excited!

i wanted an '07 A8L but they don't depreciate as much as MBs so I ended up in my depreciation-darling S55

Each time before getting Benz I have long Audi evaluation. I test drive cars, speak with dealrs, try to negotiate price and each time something prevents me from buying Audi. I still keep hope to be a proud Audi owner. I know that a friend of mine traded GL for Q and really happy with the move. So I am really surprising to see Audi converts

I have had the same experience here. I've been wanting to give Audi a chance, but they seem to really know how to push me away each time.
Anyhow, R8 5.2 and still dreaming.

I had a 2005 A6 3.2 Quattro. It was unreliable, poor ride, noisy engine, and squeaks and rattles everywhere.

Never again.

My first newly purchased car was an A4 1.8TQ 5 sp manual. Fantastic car, incredibly reliable, and downright solid all around. The A6, having friends and fam owning different variations, not so much. I'd buy an A4/S4/rs4 (and by default the a5/s5 as well), and the a8 in either flavor. Would NOT buy any form of a6 or q model- the new tt rs looks interesting but probably wouldn't buy this o e either.

I generally like Audi overall, and they do some really nice cars (e.g. Rs5...)

A family member had a 2004 A6 which was at the dealer every other week.
I thought BMW's were bad but Audi takes problems to another level.

I seriously looked at an Audi before I bought the E350, sales rep said, Audi's are mostly trouble free now. That's good to hear I said and went to the MB dealer.
MB's are not perfect in anyway but after owning 2 E series, I will take my chances.

I asked this earlier in another one of your posts. But why are you comparing an A4/S4 with the E Class?

fwiw, the HID adaptive lights on the E Class are optional. It's a $6k P2 option otherwise you get halogens. The A6/S6 (which is the proper car comparison/competitor) also comes with a similar option of HID adaptive lights (The prestige version.) The S4, on the other hand comes standard with HIDs (although non-adaptive.)

A4=C300/350
S4=BMW 335i
A6=E Class
A6=BMW 5 series

I had a Gold '87 5000CS Turbo as my first car. Living in a "Rich" neighborhood, and going to a school in that neighborhood, when the car was over 10 years old, made for some interesting "growing pains", lol.

A blown transmission, and a smashed up passenger side later, I finally got the more appropriate-for-the-occasion bright Blue Mustang GT.

I must be the only one who liked his Audi.

I had a 2006 A6 loaded up and I absolutely loved it. It was a smart car ergonomically, had alot of great technology before MB and even BMW had it, for much less money (back then) and drove fantastically - great acceleration, handling was firm yet it had a nice ride. The car never gave me one problem in 2 years (maybe that's why). My biggest complaint was the dealership service department - I've never dealt with such crappy attitudes at a luxury dealer before.

I then went to a 2008 E350 and pretty much hated it from day one. When my lease was coming up I had no intention of going MB again and was all set to get another A6 when MB gave me an offer I couldn't refuse, I test drive the W212 and was surprised at how much improved the E was, so here I am again.

All that said, I'd still get another A6 or step up to an A8. I test drove the A4 and wasn't all that impressed though but I wouldn't compare an A4 to an E350.

The new S4 is actually not too far off size wise from the E class. It's wheel base is 110 inches (I think E class is 113). The V6 supercharged engine in the S4 is amazing at 330 hp and with the Stronic and gets around 28mpg highways. For me, it was the comparitive car.

The problem I had was how they cheapend everything else. For example, the steering wheel is manual. I am a tall guy and really like it when the steering wheel rises out of the way for my legs when you get out of the car. I know this sounds petty but it is additive to the non adaptive headlights. And for a $60K car, I think you should have SOME standard luxury items.

And for the record, I did love all of my Audis. Never had any porblems with them.
