I have the same dilemna.

Im buying a 2011 E 550 white with a black top benz with black leather but im not sure whether i should go with burl walnut or black ash trim. I always had burl in my previous benz's but they were classier than the one im looking at. I feel this one is sportier looking so i should go with black ash. im stuck between traditional luxury and new sleek sport.

I agreed with U that the current burl wood is not as "classy" than before.
I've also black ash and it goes very well with my black interior!

Some combo's work well with the black ash, and of course, some people don't like the look of Walnut, etc. And of course, it's all about the person perceiving it.
Personally I like the walnut color because it shows the wood characteristics a lot better than the black ash.

In my country we are left with 2 choices...Elegant line (walnut) or Avantgarde-Sport (black ash). In my case, i dont have option but to take the black ash since I want to buy the avantgarde line.

I've been thinking about this for quite sometime before deciding to order the car..so I know your dilemma. What I did: I ordered the car with natural beige leather (the one with a little bit of orange hue) so that I can have 3 tone color contrasts in my cabin (to compensate my dislike with black ash wood). After my car is delivered, I like the combo more and more. I got anthracite headliner, black dashboard, natural beige leather, black ash wood. Combined together, they make perfect combo..sporty yet classy. I hope this helps.

**I'll post some pictures when I got home later.

good point about wood grains, they are beautiful.......the black ash has SOME, but not as much as the walnut I've seen.........or at least not as noticable
I have an all black interior, so my opinion on many colors is quite different....

Well spoken...

My previous two M-B's have been black interior with Burl but my latest car has black with black (that is the only option with Avantgarde) and I have shown this picture before and I like it.

This picture does not show what it looks like with the sun shining on it.

With the sun on it you see the wood grain illuminated like seams of gold and as the sun nearly always shines around here once you pull out of the garage the dashboard comes alive with light.

Opinions...everyone has one.

Mine is strong towards black ash. The walnut looks too "old manish" to me.

Again...just my opinion. no offense to any others

Old-Man-ish, Toddler-ish, who cares. I don't try and project a certain age group to something, to scare me away from it. I'm comfortable in my age in my late 20's now, and I'll be comfortable in my age when I'm an "old man". Lol.

IMO, I wouldn't drive an E with black ash, just lacking in an elegant look inside, and not as Luxurious of an ambiance as walnut. But that's what I'm looking for with this car (I wouldn't want Walnut in a Porsche, for example, I'd want CF, but you couldn't give me an E with CF interior, totally wrong.... I also wouldn't want a 4-Door Porsche ). It's all about what's appropriate to the vibe of the theme of the car.

The E can have a few different characters, depending on how you set it up. The Ash definitely gives the interior a slicker, monochromatic, "sportier" (I guess, although I'd never consider a W212 interior, with a stalk shifter "sporty") theme, and Walnut gives it a warmer, more "classic Luxury", elegant/prestigious look (IMO).

Now if MBUSA can only give us more exterior options to debate and differentiate our cars with, that would be perfect.

Agreed with the poster who said black leather w/ burl reminds me of black suit with brown belt. To me the black leather w/ blash ash is pretty classy.

I'm going to buy an E550 shortly, and what I'd really like is black leather with the Designo piano black trim and Designo black alcantara headliner. But, if those aren't available, I'll probably go with E550 Sport with the black ash trim as kind of a cheaper (though still elegant) knock-off of what I really want.
