Burl Walnut or Black Ash??????

So i am about to pull the trigger on a 2011 E350 Black on Black mb text, 4-matic, P1. The only thing that held me back from driving out today was trying to choose a trim color!! Sounds kind of stupid ey

So considering the fact that im going with black mb text and a black car, i really like the kind of sporty and stealthy look of the black ash wood. But then when i look at it again, it looks kind of cheap and plastic-ish.

The black on walnut gives the interior contrast and makes it look rich. Not to mention the ambient lighting looks very nice under it, whereas on the black ash it looks kind of haloweeny...But at the same time, walnut wood is very common in vehicles and the black is just different and cool...IDK!

Thats my input guys...

so has anyone gotten the black on black and regretted it? or vice versa?...because at this point im about to just flip a coin because i really cant make up my mind about something so small lol

Burl walnut all the way. Black ash does not look like wood unless you look really carefully.

Go with burl wood because it seems like your heart is set on it. Personally I love the black ash in my car because it makes the car two tone rather than three but for you the burl wood will give you a nice contrast with the black.

I'm all about a classic and rich luxury look, so Black Ash (or the W211's Birdseye) are deal breakers for me. It's all about the Walnut. Thankfully M-B gives us options though, as each has a different character, which appeals to different people.

yes......black ash is swaaa-eat man....
the status quo seems to be 'no black ash',
but I'm here to say it looks really good and I (personally), really like it....
and you don't have to look THAT close to see the grains.....that's silly....
it's very plain to see.....

but again, this is only the opinion.......rock on

I would recommend the burl. The black looks a bit "plasticy" with the black interior.

However, unless you have great eyesight I would STRONGLY recommend that you test drive the E350 at night to see if the standand halagon lights are suitable for you. You only get xenons with the P2 option.

I picked up a E350 with P1 last week and I am having a difficult time seeing at night - especially if it is raining. Never had this problem with any of my xenon equipped cars. I now consider having xenons a safety feature.

Good luck with your decision.

Black ash for a sporty contemporary look & feel, Walnut for a classic luxury look & feel. Take your pic. If you go all black interior, not so sure I would throw walnut in there. Kind of like a guy wearing an all black suit with a brown belt. Although rare, there are those guys that would do it. lol.

lol, sorry man, I was just outside trying to get some good photos for you, but decided too much sun was involved.....(coolpix s50)
believe it or don't, there wasn't one car on the lot with black ash for me to see, so it was a choice I had to make......I do like it though....
it shows dust a bit in some places(center console), but the doors and trim around the command junk looks good, and about it looking like plastic.....
I'm sure it would be assumed, 'hey it's a MB, of course it's not plastic'
lol, but it doesn't look plastic-ish to me, has nice grains that swerve and wave...

good luck

I just want to add that it's really all about the interior color combo too. I usually like my color combo to be one that suits the Burl wood, as it gives me the "vibe" I like (I'm personally a big fan of 2-3 color contrasts inside my car). Some combo's work well with the black ash, and of course, some people don't like the look of Walnut, etc. And of course, it's all about the person perceiving it.

it is about the personal huh?
I actually do like ALL of those wood grains and colors, I'm a big fan of
those nice woods being a guitar player lol.....I could see going with some really specialty stuff that would probably need to be custom done, hehe...
saw a guy a while back with some kind of exotic wood that he re-did or something, I remember saying, 'wow, that's cool'.....
I never really thought of having a few colors, seems a bit busy to me, but I did have a chance to see a few older models today as a matter of fact; some old amg's that had nice tri-color interiors with thick stitches and stuff....pretty cool when you're used to your own colors....
I definitely appreciate all these different combo's people have going...

I love wood too (at least in car interiors, amongst other things), very warm, classic, luxurious (when done right).

Some people hate it, and prefer aluminum trim, which is crazy to me, and I've even seen people paint over their wood trim (in a W211) with piano black!

I will say that I wish M-B stayed with the W211's "Birdseye" as the darker/"sportier" wood option, as IMO the black ash is a bit tooo dark, and if I'm remembering correctly, lacks some texture? The Birdseye is black, but has some visible texture, and an elegant "gray/smoke" hue to it as well.

For me, with a black interior I would go with the black ash trim. With a beige interior, I would go with burl walnut. That's just me. Have fun figuring this out! Enjoy what ever you choose

I was going with burl wood, but switched over to blk ash last minute.
I love it. Very sporty. Just have fun with it. This will not be your last car.

I have to reinforce getting P2 as well. I wouldn't buy this car without Bi-Xenons, it just doesn't look the same and it is much better for night driving. The Keyless Go and the Electronic Trunk Closer are great too.

I went with Black Ash with my Black on Black!
Felt the Burlwood looks a little out of place when I saw one in the showroom with black on black.

Which wood

My vote is for Black Ash...I like the sportier look. Goes better with the sport pedals too.
