It's a nice feature to have albeit one I miss out on having a 2011. I still get the convenience of automatic closing though which is pretty nice haha.
You know you can close the trunk from inside the car by just pressing down on the trunk open button right? Some people claim they like to open and close the trunk while they're in traffic to freak out the car behind you.

I only did that once. Lady cut me off in traffic badly. I managed to get in front of her later and opened the trunk when stopped. Saw her laughing when it opened. She had a perplexed look on her face when it closed.

It is my understanding that if you have the power close trunk and keyless go, you can add the kick sensor if you can program it in. also I hear you can program trunk closing into the remote like the euro models, I use the button on the driver's door panel to open and close, works for me.

Do people think it is a malfunction though? Those people might laugh and pretend that Mercedes' reliability is "poor and prone to failure".
Actually, I guess doing so is an action of saying hello to the car in the rear. Did people actually try this as a way of saying thank you when they let you in but I am not sure if everyone gets the message this way. Other than opening the windows and waving your hand, how else do you all say thank you?
One flash of the hazard indicators is my standard way.
This is the standard. Whenever someone lets you in or is nice, this how you acknowledge it. Watch semi’s. That’s how they do it. And you turn your lights off and on if you are letting them know it’s clear to move over.

Same.
I see trucks using that method here in Canada so I started using it.
There are also those who do blinker (left and right) dance but much more rare.
Personally I open the window to wave in the summer but in the winter I do the two times hazard flash to express my gratitude for those who let me in.
I've read 20 posts up to #309... My favorite feature I use all day long is the "automatic stopping" and I don't mean brake Hold!
When I come up to a traffic light, I just put my foot on the brake pedal and the car manages the closing distance to the car moving or already stopped up front.
This makes it really nice to drive that car and it has not failed me yet.
I think it's a relative of Distro+ & PreSafe sharing up the 3 frontal radars and twin cameras

One thing which I use always when parking my car for a reasonable length of time is the "disable keyless go" feature. I'm not sure if any of you have seen it, but Mercedes parked in driveways with the key inside the house can be fooled. One person goes up to the front door with a unit which will excite the key so it sends its signal, that thief's device sends the code back to another device which mimics the signals from the key at your car in the driveway and then the door handle is grabbed, the door unlocks, thief climbs in, starts the car, and drives off. The thief by your front door then gets back into the getaway car and leaves
the mercedes smartkey fob is a lot more complicated than most other makes, it uses two entirely different signals, one to send commands, and the other to detect its location inside or outside the car, and (I'm not sure those 'repeaters' like you describe would work with this system, they are more targetted at common cars like toyota and honda.

Yes I think those repeaters work on Mercedes cars, I think there were a few threads about Mercedes getting stolen from that feature. I don't think it's that common in the US, thieves are too lazy or stupid to do that when access to a gun is easy and they can just carjack you.

I have all those options but have not experienced that... I also have never tried.. I wonder if I could test this without crapping my pants.
Those of you who drive a 1928 630K should be aware that the hood ornament is actually the radiator cap. After a brisk drive, wait for a while before removing it.
Also, tell your passengers to be careful not to trip over the tool box implanted into the running board.

You can try this function easily because the way your foot is already pressing the brake pedal makes it kind 'o fail safe.
You don't really need to do anything special besides brake too lightly to have the system work magic.
It works seemlessly without any pedal feedback that computers are smoothly braking for you. Car will stop between 3 and 4 feet behind front car, same way Distro+ stops.
FYI: if your Distro+ is not reacting smoothly in stop'n go traffic crawl, it's evidence you've got CAN latencies delays (ie. micro-freezes)
When CAN Xfers are healthy, Distro+ brakes smoothly without any jerkiness.
I'll try to troubleshoot the players of CAN-B latencies later this year.

Touching the brake pedal disables the Distronic so I don't know what it means either...
Are you familiar with how W212 Distro+ cruise control can follow cars 100% independently?
The feature I am referring to is how German (likely Robert Bosch GmbH) enabled cars to stop independently just by touching the brake pedal.
All these smart features is exactly what's now licensed for premium Toyota, Honda etc...
Instead of making everything junk-cheap like Fiat, they went forward to make smart transportation safer for the masses.... such as ubiquitous "ABS brakes" found everywhere including BMW motorcycles.
👏
