Remote Starter
Any positive/negative ideas on Remote Starter from Smartkey starter? What is the farthest distance (from how far can you start up the car)? Thanks in advance.

dude... thats the wourst idea ..dont even think about it ..try it you will be at the dealer everyday... especially if you have keyless go entry. also..you need to understand these vehicles use special keys for ESL and EIS which are coded to the vehicle.

See my earlier thread on this. I had the unit from mid city engineering installed and it works great. Uses your existing key fob to work. There is also an option to have iPhone operate it which I did not get. No problems or issues whatsoever

the dealer here wants $1500 for the auto start (1200 w/o keyless go)
too much money for something that may or may not be reliable. I would consider it if it was a factory option.
I had it on my SRT-8 Jeep, it was a factory option, built into the key fob, standard on the SRT I think. Worked pretty good for the cold winters of MN.

Viper sells that unit that ties into the iPhone or Droid. I kinda like that idea better than messing with the key Fob, plus it is much cheaper.

Zinny: I think the viper unit interfaces with the mid city component so you need both...not sure
In terms of reliability - no issues so far. I'm curious if ducati has had issues with this component or if he's bs'ing. Not sure where he's going with the key issue... It uses the factory key.

OK guys, I just installed the one from Mid-City via Automobility dealer here in Toronto. There is a small issue that will be fixed this week and I'll give you more details when the installation is complete. Thanks

Smart key starter!!!
this product is awesome if u live in any cold region and always wanted a remote starer for you Mercedes Benz i have this product installed and it works beautifully. i never had any faults with the product myself. rarely ppl do, but they carry a warranty on all they're products. Im actually very lucky to live around the corner from the company that designed the smart key remote starter module, and became good friends with the engineer who designed the part The new upgraded Module is easy to install with a plug and play harness system, and will cost you 999.99 with install or 799.99 for just parts. if you have any questions about shipping or anything else, feel free to contact me at 773-332-2215 orMercedesB_Ent86@yahoo.com, my name is Sonny and i hope i was able to help.

Awesome, and spread the word. since most of us benz owners dont even know this accessory exists. As i was very surprised myself to find out that its out and very reliable! I wouldnt have it any other way now. Chicago gets pretty cold in the winter!

well its really cool. u just tap the panic button and your car starts! if u get the 2 way compustart remote, it can reach up to a mile, with 2 way communication. so u would know if your car is unlocked or running. and if u dont go to the car within 15 min, it shuts down to prevent unnecessary waste of gas. its easily programed and installed. they let me watch when they put it in. anything else i can help u with ?

What's the price for the 2 way? I saw on their site that it say that you could control it from your iphone. Is there anything extra you need to purchase to be able to do this?

I live in Toronto Canada, paid $1100 plus tax to install the remote starter, it is working very well. Trying to install the Blackberry piece as it needs DMS200. This piece is on sale for $179 by Sonic electronics but not sure if it works in Canada as we have differenct carriers (i.e. Rogers). Any info on this will be appreciated.

I just had a remote starter installed on my Hybrid ML. The piece works great. You use the panic button. I also installed the compustar component to start the car from by blackberry. The dealer is expensive. Call mid city engineering and you can find it cheaper.
