Fuel filler Door miss Alignment - Snow region
Hi All,,, I am living in Ontario, Canada... you know those snow and freezing area. I recently observed my E350 fuel filler door was miss-aligned. the back of the door which u press to open it.. kind of out around 2mm.. after some check, I believe it is due to water in-between the inside Black plastic bracket and the body color piece.. the "ICE" expansion just push that cover piece out. I can't fix it even after a hair dyer to melt any water...
Did anybody observe this ? also, is the Color piece fix with the black bracket by just "Double side tape" ?

MBWorld Fanatic!
Had the same issue and it was caused by the filler cap string as Ned already explained. Just make sure that string is not acting like a spring and push the door open.

Good thing I found this thread. I just noticed my fuel filler door wasn't closed all the way and to make the matter worse I could open the fuel filler door even in it's "closed" door position. Then I found this thread from searching to see if other members got similar issue and I unwind the fuel cap string like OP said and fixed the problem. I also notice that Mercedes doesn't lock the fuel filler door until all the doors are locked. Otherwise you call pull the fuel filler door in its "closed" position. Found out while I was having my fuel filler door problem.

Wow!
Same problem here. Fuel filler door not closing all the way down...
The little String holding the gas cap was getting tangled. I turned the wire and its plastic rivet to point downwards and all is well.
I believe to be a pretty good wrench... Finding this thread has solved my problem but make me feel like a total idiot.
Thanks NGerstman!!!

I had same problem, just bought the car yesterday went to fill her up and then could not close the cover. Even took it to the MB dealer and they could not figure it out. Just went outside and sorted out the wire as per above and bingo it fits.. Thanks guys.. Great forum.
