New Steering Wheel, comments/inputs?

Called DCTMS about converting my wheel from the pure leather to the matching Black Ash Wood Trim (something like the one shown), I think it would set the cabin off very tastefully, any thoughts? BTW, there was an SL65 they did for Marcus Frost, it came out great!! Don't know the price but will get to visit them in the next week or two. The following picture shows Carbon but again we'll be doing matching black ash (I would leave the side leather installed and just change the top and bottm)

That is going to add at least 20 HP to your steering skills...

On a serious note: looks nice!

Only MBs - the best or nothing
IMO, for what the're going to charge for it (about $1,000) plus you'll need to send them your core (assuming you have AMG wheel, if not than more than that) is not worth it. Again assuming you already have AMG steering wheel (if not you' ll also need an airbag), that wheel is already very sporty and is just perfect IMO.

I've talked to DCTMS, the good news is they are located here in the Bay Area, they have loaner wheels and will do the install/reinstall (so that's a lot easier than someone remote to Cali). Regarding the money I hear you, but I buy my cars and usually keep them 5-7 years, so for me it's about enjoyment vs the few bucks it will cost.

Well my main point was: going from non-AMG steering wheel to DCT - yes absolutely, but from AMG to DCT - not for $1,000 (IMO the difference is not that great).

I've always had my reservations about the solid wheels, specialy at the top. My 211 has the wood wheel and It was never comfortable to grip on long drives. I love the full leather better but I think the look of a black ash would be sweet. It is a great looking wheel. Hopefully they can match your ash grain and shade pretty well if you do the switch.

Hi fromthebeginnin,
Do you have Lane departure feature? If yes, then the wood option may not be compatible with your car. With Lane departure feature, there is a vibrator module that get burried in the steering wheel. You are lucky if you do not have the lane departure feature.

I think it looks nice and comfy for the hands bud! Although, I do really love the stock steering wheels on this car too.

It seems those really sculpted definitions on the wheel are well thought out for comfort and spirited driving.

I'll second the person who said to think about long drives with the wood/carbon fiber parts being in place. To be honest, the looks are great, but I've never driven a car with a wood wheel that was functional in comfort or grip. They've tended to get greasy as well (if you're hands are sweaty, or simply by lots of use), and get HOT in summer, and COLD in winter. Something to definitely think about!

Thanks guys for the input, I'll hold on this one and think it through, comfort for long drives, the feel during the cold weather comments raised key concerns.

I think it looks awesome.

I have had several cars with wood steering wheels and some with wood and leather. I agree with K-A's comment as it would pertain to an all wood wheel. However, not really an issue with a wheel such as yours that still has the leather where one normally grasps the wheel.

Go for it. Post a pic when you get it installed.
