Can I fudge the break-in a bit?
I have a new E350 and will be at around 750/800 miles before I'd like to take it on a road trip. Do you think there's any harm in running it at a constant speed on the highway at that point?
I'm hoping there's enough wiggle room in the manual's suggested breakin to allow for it.
Thanks!

The manual recommends to avoid constant speeds for extended periods of time for the first 1,000 miles. I can see where I'd be at constant speeds for periods of up to 45 minutes on the highway.

C220, E350
it says: "drive at varying vehicle speeds and engine speeds for the first 1000 miles (1500 km)"
i think it is just tell you to drive hwy and local as some people may not use it to drive hwy when it is new

I took my 2004 E320 and my 2008 E350 on 6,000 mile driving vacations and left with about 200 miles on the clock on each of them. I think it's a good way to break in a car. Just don't drive at the same RPM all the time. It doesn't take long to get 1,000 miles on the clock when you are driving long distances.
Thinking back, I did the same thing with my 1991 300E. I'm still driving it and it doesn't use any oil between oil changes.
Remember that you are breaking in the entire drive train and the only component that needs to have a change of pace is the engine.

It should be fine.
Maybe just don't keep in on Cruise Control for too long if you want to be extra cautious. Or keep moving the RPM's up and down gradually.
