There's one bit in the article that is most relevant to this discussion:
"Mercedes will still sell the four- and six-cylinder engines in America, but simply without the lean-burn capabilities. One of these engines, called BlueDirect in the U.S., is the direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 which will make it across the 2012 C-Class, E-Class, M-Class, and SLK."
It's already confirmed in the 2012 C350 (and one other model, I believe). The new 3.5-liter is MBZs high-volume engine going forward, so I'm crossing my fingers that they get it into the E350 ASAP.

I believe it refers more broadly to next-gen fuel & emission efficient engines.

Had a MB E 200 Wagon as a rental in germany some months ago. It had text "Blue Technology" printed on boths sides between front door ond fender.
I don't know what this all means. The car had a gasoline engine, at least, that is what I filled it up with three times and it worked fine. Someone told me it has electric motors too but I could not see anything pointing to that.
The car was kind of fast to be just two liter gasoline but I don't know for sure.

Another thing slowing down car production 2011 & maybe 2012 will problems in Japan.. Japan makes alot for the components like Audio..
No Radios no Cars..
I'm hoping that you do because I'm leaning towards waiting for this thing.
Thanks,

It will be, I work for a dealer here in Orange County and the ordering should open up next month. We are ordering the new C350 with the new 302HP engine currently and E350s are coming up soon. Techs have already been to class about the M278 (4.6L TT V8) and I think M276 school is happening now or in the immediate future. We have the preliminary order guides for SLK and the C facelift and all signs point to the M276 in the cars so there is no reason it will not be in the 2012 E350.

I'll be purchasing this car and keeping it "forever", so the new engine is important to me. Your information above makes me feel better about waiting a bit. I really appreciate your forthrightness.

It was at one point scrapped for US cars however that is not the case.
