Warning - Serious Service Problems
I went to a local high volume dealer for an A Service for my 2010 E350. The oil filter was improperly installed, and the car had to be towed off the highway 20 minutes after leaving the dealer. The crank bearings are scored and the engine has to be rebuilt. What's happened to Mercedes Benz quality?

I would not accept a rebuilt engine. I would insist on a brand new crate engine and nothing else. The dealer has insurance to cover faulty repair work.

I usually check the work dealers perform before I leave. Obviously, there are things you can't see but I can't count the times I've popped the hood and found something wrong.

wow just wow, thats insane. Not sure how the filter looks on the E, we still have a way to go before it needs changing but I changed it and oil on my CLK a couple times and can't imagine how it could be incorrectly installed.

If the o-ring on the cap was installed wrong, it could leak oil. I don't see how the other o-rings could cause this kind of problem.

Sucks to think we put our cars in the hands of someone else who may or may not feel like being at work that day

I've had this happen 3 times in the last 10 years. First time was in my Porsche 911 and left a lake of oil on my garage floor. Second time was also in the 911 and left a lake of oil on the parking lot at work. Third time was in my Subaru WRX and left a lake of oil at a nearby Barnes and Noble. Jeez, I'm as bad as BP!

actually how could that happen? they freaking charge hundred hundred bucks for services (i guess Porsche must be a lot higher~!!) and end up fxxx up the services..... did u ask for compensation?

The first was caused by a ring damaged when the tech put on the filter. Second the filter was cross-threaded. Third the tech got distracted or something and didn't fully tighten the drain plug. In each case, I got my entire service bill refunded (plus all towing/transportation charges paid, of course). You're right -- for the Porsche, that was a few hundred bucks.

Dealership should step up big time, between them and MB you should either get one hell of a deal on a left over 11, or at the very least a new engine.

So I had a Chevy Surburban about 10 years ago, got rear-ended and fixed at body shop affliated with my local dealer. I drove around all day, finally, while going about 30 mph my rear left tire went flying off my car and landed about 50 feet away in a empty parking lot, my brake calipers went through a wood sign and broke it in half, other parts all over and my rotors dug a trail into the asphalt for about 20 feet. The body shop apparently forgot to tighten the bolts. They could have killed me or someone else. Extremely lucky no one got hurt.

I hope they replaced all the parts on your truck no charge.....

I've now seen a few threads with similar characteristics. The OP, typically with very low thread count, starts the thread with a rant about a problem - then, no further posts or updates. The other members contribute condolences, opinions, advice, etc., but we never hear the outcome.
I sometimes think these threads are started by a member with pseudo-screen names just to keep the forum active. To the OP, if real, I hope the dealer resolved their oversight and are making the inconvenience worthwhile for you. Please let us know how it goes.
If not real, at least it advanced the discussion from the coolness of the brake/hold feature!
