Just to let ya know... Korea and Spain which are about 50K sq miles smaller than Texas... vs the map disk of the USA..... How big is your hard drive Nav system....

 

good point, but they could use that music register that is useless ... We do not need such level of details like on the examples, but any 3D would be nice even if its just cubes. The Nav in the 2011 looks archaic.

 

Hahaha... Maybe korea alone is small but Spain map is part of the overall European Maps.
I think the technology is capable. Hard drive is cheap and U.S. Data map is available. The problem is MB USA needs to do much better job to make it happen.

I called the dealer and asked them if I could stop by and wait for the upgrade on the command software.

They informed me it would take time and the wait could be up to 4 hours.

Was planning on getting the update on my first service but might have to make the trip if things turn out well with someone else's update.

 

the hard drives are the extreme environment type... choices aren't too vast...

 

Status Update.....
Not looking good. They had the car for the whole day and upgraded the software but the 3D option did not show up. The shop foreman will be in contact with the MB and maybe they have to change the command system. They will call me back on Wednesday.

On a good note, they fixed my ratleing originated from the overhead panel cover on the top of rear windshield. The rid is quite now. So this saga is not over yet. I hope this can be fixed through a software update only.

Anybody with success story, please let us know.

 

How is the upgraded Command software? Going in on Tuesday for Service and Software upgrade (they better do the upgrade).

 

Just had my COMAND updated on Monday. No 3D . On the other hand, it did make BT streaming and phone work better, cleaned up the traffic icons, and fixed the problem with POI's of chains showing up in different states, rather than the nearest ones. Worth the 4 hours of driving that crappy no option C300 loaner.

 

I guess the 3D option is available just that the maps do not support it at this time. The 'POI's showing up in deferent states' was really funny, one would think whoever develop the NAV software knew what they were doing

There are so many mature 3rd party NAV options out there and the software included with MB's feels archaic. Why can't MB team up with one of these companies and provide a real NAV for $70k car?

Another thing I do not understand is why on earth does it take 4 hours to update the software? Are they uploading 4GB of data over 64k connection?

 

Yeah I have to go in super early in the morning (for me, at least ) to get the update done. I don't get what takes so long? I swear if they give me some BS as to why they can't/couldn't do it, I will be pi$$ed.

 

Okaaay... Today is my third time visit within a week. I dropped the car this morning and at 2PM, the shop foreman is still in communication with the MB engineering. I do not what's going on. They are preparing a loaner car for me if the car is not ready by 5pm.

Update...
Anything from 8/20/2010 build will have this thing available for upgrade. Mine was built on 7/20/2010. I had to pay $250 for the CD upgrade and not guarantee to work. I decided to pick up the car without upgrade. I will try other dealership...

 

Mine was built 6/2010 and I got a COMAND upgrade for free as part of the warranty. I got stonewalled at first until I showed the service rep guy the receipt someone posted on this board about upgrading to BT audio. They asked me to come back in and updated it. I don't know if the maps got updated, because when I got to Nav>options>version it says version 3.0 2010.

 

I got my car back today from service, after a 2 hour "Uploading of new software", and NOTHING changed. I'm totally pissed. No new graphics, new anything. I guess I used the wrong excuse and reference number (said that BT was hard to understand for the recipient, and whatever they "reflashed" due to it didn't change my Command Software).

Looks like if I really want it done, I'm gonna have to get aggressive. Can someone repost that receipt for me?

I have the 3D option on my 2011 E550. It shows buildings for Manhattan only, not Staten Island or even Brooklyn. Maybe for Downtown Brooklyn. It looks the same as the Spanish version, but nowhere near the Korean version.

 

Simply note it in writting that:
1. BT Audio always needs De-Auth and re-Auth every time I want to stream the music from my Iphone 4 after recycling the ignition key.
I had to show the service advisor and he wrote it as BT Audio does not work all the time. (on my back pocket, I am ready to show it in new 2011 MY car from the showroom if needed )

I did the same process for the 3D map option update. After multiple visits within a week, they found out that my car was built before 8/20/11. So it is not "design" for that. The CD upgrade is available but I have to pay $250.00 with no guarantee to work. I was not happy and I did not take the chance. "It is a nice to have thing"..option.

 

i have the 3D thing too but it doesnt work for downtown toronto

 

I do have the 3D option in the menu but there are a very limited number of buildings that render in 3D. I will check my comand version number and report back to the thread.

Sat in the 2012 CLS, NO upgraded Command. Exact same as my E. The new SLK seemed to have the slightly newer one though.... Or maybe the graphics just seemed a little different and sharper due to the screen being a lot smaller.
