Hello, I am currently in Spain and renting brand new W212, silver color. One thing that I notices, they have 3D city map option. I hope We can just perform software update in the future. It looks very cool.

Your 2011 E350 should already have this... mine does.

 

Mine doesn't. My manual has instructions for it inside but it's not available in my COMAND...

Next service I'm requesting a software update, hope that fixes it...

 

is there a function that shows more road names in 2d

even at the highest zoom it doesnt show all the road names

 

Yesterday,out of curiosity,I checked my nav system and there's a checkbox labeled "3D".I didn't check it or try in any way to see what it's about but it is there.

 

I have this on my 2011, but it is not in such detail. Likely detail will vary with city and location. Europe is well mapped, and you will get 3D renditions of cities.

More "cool" is the Audi Google Map 3D nav system in the new Audi A6.

 

Aaaargh.... I hate when MB has multiple software update within the same model year. My 2011 W212 did not come with this feature unfortunately. Any pictures for the menu and map view will be helpful for me to complaint for software upgrade. Thank you.

 

It's full 3D for all MB models from 2011 and up... well, at least in South Korea that is :P
MB Korea has done a really amazing job of localizing the Navi software it seems:

Very nice, that Korean Nav reminds me of the aftermarket Pioneer Nav that I had in my Charger. It just further reminds me of how bad our current Nav sucks!

 

wow, thats crazy, I was thinking about that the other day. I tried to find it few days ago on my wifes 2011 E350 but did not see anything. Perhaps we have an older command software version. I have take another look tonight

 

My 2011 W212 doesn't have the 3D update either. Wish it did. Talked to service and they need me to leave my car there a day to upgrade the command. Upgrading it on my first service call.

S. Korea is light years ahead of the US in terms of technology when it comes to stuff like this. S. Korea may even be the "new Japan" in terms of technology, especially with the recent events in Japan. The cell phone technology in S. Korea is sick. Technology that we are just getting in the US for cell phones has already been around for a year or two in S. Korea.

 

Very nice indeed. 3D was only available on the S-class not too long ago. Good to know it's finally trickling down to other MB models.

 

from what I understand from discussions with friends and relatives in Poland and Latvia, Europe is also quite a bit ahead in cell phones. Must to do something with maximizing returns on the old tech. Wife tells me same goes for fashion. She is always on top of it and on one of the trips her sister in Latvia commented that they had this fashion over a year ago and its already past news so she felt very outdated

My Check Engine Light was on since yesterday and the engine was stuttering when it was on idle. Today Everthing is okay but the check engine light still on. I called the dealership and made an appointment for Wednesday. I also mentioned to update my command with the 3D option. We'll see..

Check Engine fixed. My engine had a miss-fired one time.
Not so good news: They could not finish/ figure out yet the 3D map upgrade. I have to come back Friday. Arrrggh!
Anybody here haveany succes story upgrading their Nav system to have the 3D map features? Let me know.

 

Has anyone, that has the 3D feature enabled, seen any 3D city graphics in the US? I have this feature enabled and have not seen any maps appear in 3D (NY, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh). Just curious if there are any 3d maps in the Nav system for the US.

 

When driving a rental car in Spain, I had to zoom in to 50m scale, maybe close to the far left. The city (3D) box was checked and I was in 3D-map orientation. Did you zoom in the map?

All we have is top view, no 3D at all in my wifes 2011 model. But then I'm in small city in the US called Chicago so that might be it.
