I have the non-metallic black paint and just noticed that the handles have a lot of flake in the paint. Whats up with that?

I have the 040 black as well and have noticed this as well. Not sure why MB chose to do this. Knowing yours is like that too, I am guessing all 040 black models have this paint on the door handles. I think it makes the car faster and handle better. Of course the 040 paint is always faster than the other colors.

The door handles are painted obsidian black and I don't know why.

According to EPC, handles are only available in Obsidian Black only way to have them match is to order colorless handles and have them painted.

This is true for our C and S class cars as well. Probably less expensive to use Ob Black handles on both non-met and met cars.

this is done as obsidian is less prone to show scratches. mb has been doing this for several years.

I thought only my car had this issue! why do only some of the 040 cars have different color handles. i have a 2011 GL 040 black with 040 black handles, but my w212 is 040 black with obsidian handles. I bought both cars the same day, and have owned several 040 black benzes. This is really stupid. When my E is nice and clean and the sun is shining, the door handles stick out like sore thumbs.

I am happy to have found this post. I have had a 2013 black GLK for a week and have observed that the door handles are Obsidian Black. It really stands out on a sunny day.

Actually, I wish my car was Obsidian Black.

That's some shoddy shenanigans there. Mismatched paint on the handles? It's bad enough that non-P2 W212's have cheaper looking monochromatic handles as opposed to the classic and currently upmarket M-B-style ones with chrome at the tips (cost cutting).

How crazy is this topic??? Chevy Malibu's have matching door handles, and probably all sub $25,000 cars, and for the money we spend we get different colors. I guess MB is getting like Orange County Choppers, whatever is on the shelf, just use it....lol
