Mud Flap question

I have a question regarding removal of the rear mud flap on my new w212. It came with rear mud flaps, which are made from a hard rigid plastic material and each flap is mounted rigidly with 3 screws.

The problem is the flap extended too low towards the ground and it would hit the curb almost everytime I reverse park the car. It has been scratched slightly, but I am more concern about all the stress that is passed to the plastic bumper panel.

I brought it to the dealer last week to have them removed, but after they removed the mounting screws, they found the mud flaps to be somehow glued to the bumper plastic panels as well, so they were afraid to remove them as that might take some paint with it.

After closer inspection, I have a suspicion that what the dealer thought was glue, was actually double sided tape.

I just like to ask someone who is experienced with how mud flaps are attached to the W212. Is it glue or double sided tape? What is the easiest way to get it removed without taking some paint with it.

I live in Asia and this is a fully imported car, and the mud flap is a feature that is not available on locally assembled w212, so the local mechanics are not experienced with it.

Thanks in advance.

are you talking about those 1 inch nubs? or do you have the actual flaps?
I wanted to get them when ordering, but the sport body paneling at the bottom
made it impossible......according to the dealer....and a couple of other sources..

They are the actual flapS. You can see the photos below. I think it can only fit on either the elegance or avantgarde bumper panel. Mine is an avantgarde.

Te flaps actually made the car look more muscular, which is pretty cool. But I have to worry about it hitting something all the time, so I don't recommend it. Even with the flaps, the rear end of my w212 still get dirtier than my old w211.

Is the black coupe in your signature your car? It is probably the coolest coupe I have ever seen already. You don't need the flaps.

Viewing from iPad (small screen), it certainly look like a coupe. Now I see the standup 3 pointed star badge. Regardless, it is still a very cool looking E. I think black and white are the 2 best looking colors for w212 ... but more difficult to keep clean.

It's a double sided tape. I just bought one set for the front and came with the double sided taped stuck on the mud flaps ready to be pealed to stick on the car body along with some self tapping screws. I would take the screws out first, then carefully use an exact-do knife to take the flaps off. Don't worry about the tape not cleanly and totally removed off the body. The key is not to damage the body paint. Then go back with a cleaner wax to remove the residual tape. Easy job. Have fun...

If you can use dental floss as this is very strong and breaks the bond without damaging the paint work!!!!!!
