E-Class (W212) 2010 - 2016: E 350, E 550

Am I being unreasonable

Im going to my dealer which is 340 miles RT for service A. I advised him the R lower speaker on the passenger door is cracking with excess vibration, sound is muffled. I asked him to preorder the part so when I get down there and get it fixed w/o returning later for part to come in. He advised me there a three speakers on the e350 front door P1 pack and he cannot preorder the speaker, I think is broken, because they have not looked at it. Now if I live 10 miles from the dealer I wouldnt be mad, but I have listened to all speakers and base and treble ranges and its def the large r lower front speaker. I even sent them a video. Talk about lousy service. Im upset and dont know what to do next. Should I call another dealer 300 miles RT away (did not buy car from them) explain the situation. Need advice how to handle and what to do. Please advise

Might not be the speaker. I had similar annoying issues in my C280 with the HK system, and others had it too. In mine, it turned out that the amplifier was the problem, not the speaker (they replaced under warranty). Others found that the rattle was solved by adding some padding in the speaker mounting.

But, to your question--W212 is two years old, under warranty etc. They should be doing handstands to make you happy IMHO. Order whatever might be the problem to make the customer happy.

In another thread you say you are in Socal with traffic everywhere, how are the only MB dealers at least 150 miles away from you?

fwiw, less than a month ago, you mentioned that you "lost control and side swiped a pole." The damage was on the right side. You also implied that your insurance company objected to you getting the repairs done by a certified MB shop. Is it possible the speaker issue is related?

What the dealers are concerned about is getting rebated by MBUSA for any work done. Labor still costs them, no matter what. And if they can't get rebated then they have to pay. Some dealerships are very cautious about even ordering parts unless they can determine it's a definitely a warranty job that can be fully rebated. But it really boils down to whether or not you have a good relationship with the dealership. You could offer to prepay for the part and then get reimbursed under warranty. And you could always return the part if it's not the culprit in question.

Im on a short locums contract out here in the Midwest.I am from Laguna Niguel. I now I live down couty road 241 LOL. MY nearest dealers are Memphis and Saint Louis. Been here a few monts, moneys great but so ready to go back. So hate those gravel roads!!!

220 I acutally thought about the damage to the car. The Mirror came off and the right front front fender and bumber had damage. There was a minor dent on the door. There was no direct impact to the area where the speaker sits, but anythings possible? Maybe I should contact the body shop first and insurance adjuster. if there was damage to the door wouldnt they have to dismantle the inside trim including the speaker to pop out the metal?

I think what you ask is not unreasonable.... but it is a BIG favor to ask, so I don't blame the dealer for refusing. You are 170 mi away on a st contract, not exactly the kind of guy that screams life long relationship.

You'd be better off calling your usual dealer back home and doing this with them on a trip back or at the end of your contract, unless you want to go to the remote dealer 2x.

And 340 miles from a Mercedes dealership? I don't think that I could drive 25 miles in any direction without crashing into one. That's insane. Good luck. Ned.

It may be why I get headaches all the time. I probably should empty the trash between my ears once in a while. But I'm still a young puppy with active brain cells and lots of storage space left.

after 220s post I called the MB bodyshop and they admitted they dismantled the interior door to get to the dent on the door. They said they would take care of it. Looks like they damaged the speaker during repair. Thanks 22o for the advice. BTW just in case, called Saint Louis Plaza motors and they offered to pre-order the part without first assessing. But what I did not realize is there are two speakers in that lower panel so it could be either or both? Missing civilization. Its so hard to get service here for my car. I asked a car tuner shop in town today about Rennentech tuner for MB. they never heard of it. They only know chevy and ford. So Sad LOL
