Hi,
Last night I was RTFM to figure out how to get the guide-lines in backup camera. All it said was - the lines are visible depending on your year model - not verbatim, but something like that.

Some people find the lines annoying. I would just like to see what its like and how helpful they are. Is there a way to have those lines on 2011 E550? Or stick with what the Manual stated and live with it?

Read sometime ago on these forums that the lines were removed from the backup camera. Not sure if that means they just unchecked a software code to remove or completely removed from the system.

If you think about it, you can see why they may have removed that feature. Some knucklehead using the backup camera to guide and smashes into something and blaming MB for it...

 

it was reading through the manual on my 2011 today and wondered what happend to the lines. i had them in my 2010, and my 2011 ML has it.

the manual says the camera acts as a "mirror" and it's up to you to check what's back there when backing up. i bet it was a liability thing.

called my sales guy, and he said that the newer stuff does not have the lines. i actually like the lines to help up backing in.

 

There are lines for back-up cam in my GL but unfortunately not in the E estate. Backing up with the lines is much, much easier visually than without.

 

I agree. A buddy recently got an F-350 and it has the Lines on the Backup Camera and the lines actually show the parking sensor distances. Makes it way easier to use than the no lines on the E550 and separate parking sensor indicators.

 

+1 MB liability seems to winning out vs. the advanced technology other cars are coming with. For the younger potential MB owners (and those of us that are geeks) we WANT the technology packages to be up-to-date, not mired in the fear of responsibility.

 

My 2010 E350 does not have lines or anyone to create them that I know of.

 

I just took a sharpie and drew my own lines on that bad boy
