Well, is Panamera a (far) superior car to E by most parameters? IMO, absolutely yes (except maybe for the exterior design, which is subjective for each individual).
Is Panamera (about $90K for a moderetly to well optioned 2012 V6 sold at MSRP; other realy nice available options can add at least an other $10K) worth 50% "premium" over similarly equiped E (about $63-65K - 5% discount for 2012 V6)? IMO, absolutely not.

bump this one...
ran into a guy today with a nice Panny4S.....I was on my way to my car and saw him, he parked right near me so I told him I was glad to see it was a 4S, you know in a jokingly, "your car is badarse" kind of way...
and we got to talking about how he wanted to get rid of it, so I asked him what he wanted instead....and his reply? "Thinking about the new cls63"......and of course I exploded into a "ME TOO" rant......
haha, so it seems possible that we may have another Panny driver defecting to the MB side
I will also say that standing next to that car kind of renewed my appreciation for it a bit more.....those things are BIG cars....
and have lots of curves and long lines
it was a black one too which made it all the sweeter, it was dirty, but still.....black cars are bossington as hell when they're clean

The Panny seems to be underappreciated on the styling front IMO. Its stark imperfections force a lot of people to write it off altogether. However, I think that it has a lot of very positive aesthetic points as well. I've heard of a few Panny owners going the CLS route. Personally, I think the Panny is a higher level car than the CLS, not any worse looking, and a far more functional design.... Aside from that massive width making it difficult to "live with", perhaps. The Panny grows more and more on me all the time.

Panamera should be the ugliest car ever made by Porsche , genital wart -not my quote lol
Well, however interior is a different story ,it's so classy . I believe no one cares whether Panamera is ugly or not ,they just buy it for name or badge may be for uncanny performance .
I prefer E63 anyday to Panamera
