I have a 2010 E350 and started noticing that at engine start up, the engine makes a loud noise like a loud vacuum cleaner. It only does this after the car has been sitting in the garage over night. I turn my AC off and it'll still make that loud noise. The loud noise stops after about a minute or so. Should I have it serviced? This shouldn't be normal right?

Any noises you think are not normal should be addressed by the dealer. This seems like a "first time car buyer" concern.

While I don't know what that is, I'm pretty sure that noise is normal. Consider it an ignition sequence.

gotta take mine in and get it looked at, i get this wierd sound when it first starts, probably every other start. almost sounds like a diesel engine knock, just for a second then it stops

I would describe mine as a "rattle" like sound for maybe 20 secs. Asked service tech about it and he said it was normal for M-B. Didn't say what it was though. Probably does not do it every time or else I've gotten used to it.

The sound you are describing is the secondary air injection pump, def not the fan as one poster said. Normal for pump to run on any cold-start. Hope this helps.

There is rattle sounds when you move the first time after starting the engine. This is normal as the car tests systems functionality.
