not sure but Mercedes sells an integration piece for $299. I have one but have still not been able to figure out how to have the system read email or SMS. Then again, I haven't tried too hard....I bought it for streaming Pandora.

What an ignorant and self-righteous statement when the OP just needed some help to use a feature in the car... Some of us have a company to run and need to take a quick call every now and then while on the road for long periods of time... The point of this thread is to do it safely using the built in telematics offered in the car.
Having the car read a text message to you is a lot safer than having to look at the phone. Your policy works as well as abstinence

email? that's awesome.......
you people have obviously never killed anyone with your car before....
I can't believe how DUMB people look when the phone is in use......this
dumb blank stare......fighting to keep control, barely able to make that right hand turn....lol
to afraid to not answer the phone......don't want to miss that socializing huh?
how much is your phone anyway? is it nicer than your frieinds? is it expensive? a status symbol maybe? do you have a house phone too??? do you have a phone just like your frineds? lol
if someone calls you, do you drop everything you're doing?
Can people get a hold of you 24 hours a day? seven days a week?
man, that would be annoying........
we need more distractions huh?
hang up and drive!

you can say just about anything to justify doing something stupid while driving your car.......like the note on my window says:
"If you can drive like a jackass, does that make it okay for me too?"
but on another note, it's very impressive that you run your run company....
if that's the case how come you don't have something nicer?
you must be the paragon of business in your community........
do you have workshops and seminars on becoming a better human?
maybe I'll come to one so I can take some notes of the sanctimonious....

I prefer to be driving next to someone on their phone to women who are driving while putting on eye makeup. We have a weekly real estate meeting early in the morning and it is terrifying to see what some of the women are doing while driving to the meeting.

I recently peered at the Testimonials Forum and saw a GL run into a bus because of phone dropped in the center console .
You may need some sorta phone cradle to get SMS messages to read otherwise buy Blackberry

Talking on the phone is not an option for me while I'm driving....I HAVE to do it. I have my iPhone 6 synced to my new ML550 with no problems. I can control all phone functions with voice command, and it is really like speaking to somebody else in the car. The 30pin to Lightning adapter from the Apple store works perfectly in the MB. iPhone texts cannot be read aloud by the vehicle, but I never look at the phone while driving anyways....in fact, it is connected and hidden away in the console between the front two passengers.

2 things!
1. When you see the text on the display, go to tel, then select txt msg, then press the voice commander button on the steering wheel. You see the 2 options to 'read out msg'. Just say one of the two options like 'read out msg' and it will do it. You cannot reply by voice.
2. Enable 'Hey Siri' in the iPhones settings. As your iPhone is plugged in it will allow you access Siri hands free to listen to text msgs, email or whatever. You can reply or start a new msg or email with Hey Siri. You can use Hey Siri for any question including finding addresses and navigation, etc, etc. Give it a try! As long as the iPhone is a 4S or newer running 8.1 or higher connected to Bluetooth, it will work.
Sort of like having CarPlay without the installation cost.
If your iPhone is in the centre console, you may have to open it for a second so the iPhone can hear Hey SIRI, at least the first time, then it uses the vehicle microphone and speakers. This works perfectly in my 13 GLK with Command. In my 10 C300 with no command it just uses the phones microphonne and speaker.
To hold my phone I use this:
Amazon.com: iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C & iPhone 5 In-Car Charger Mount Holder Cradle w/ Direct-Connect Built-in Lightning 8-Pin Connector, (1) 12V Auxiliary Port & Dual USB Ports all Black: Cell Phones & Accessories
It is awesome. Need to be careful putting the phone but when you hear the phone chime it is being charged it is great.
