reading text messages

I wish the car had the ability to read your text messages. Ford does it, why can't MB.

Thoughts?

2011 E350 DOES display and read the text messages. Only problem is I don't think it downloads to the car automatically. When I did my first sync, all the text messages downloaded but after that, doesn't seem to be automatic. Pretty cool though

When I go to the phone screen, on the bottom, "Text Messages" box appears to the left of "Call List". I don't get e-mails, just text messages and I use a Blackberry. I also think I have Command 4.5 since I see the globe (for Sirius Weather) and the color dash.

I think most devices cannot "push" the text message via blue-tooth. I'm fairly certain the Iphone cannot do this, most HTC phones I don't think can either.

As for hanging up and drive - I'm pretty busy and would imagine quite a few MB owners are also. I really like the fact that this car has a quiet cabin so I can have conference calls while driving. One of the perks of driving a MB sedan IMO...

Agreed. From my research online, I think the phone needs to have message access protocal (MAP) which i dont beleive the iphone has. There has been rumor that the new IOS5 might support it. We will see.

Interesting. I have the new Command 4.5 and I do not see Text Messages on the phone screen. Might be because I am using an iPhone and its not supported. I will try to pair my BB or Andriod and test it that way. Maybe with a supported device it will show.

This feature is only supported by NTG4.5. The NTG 4 system cannot do this. Also to the OP, the Ford may have been able to do this first but there are many more things this car does better than a Ford (for the record I love their trucks and think their cars are headed in the right direction but lets be honest... at the end of the day its not an MB).

If you are interested in listening to your messages (emails), you can buy a piece of hardware from Ilane.com. I'm using it for almost a year and it is fantastic.

LOL!!! Makes me sick to my stomach when I see people with a phone on their ear in traffic. AT LEAST get yourself a handsfree kit!! I also see people doing this who have BT in their car but are too stupid to know they have that feature or how to hook it up.

I have my iphone 4 linked with comand 4.5 and most of the time it works correctly. However at times, the phone will ring and I answer it (button on steering wheel) and there's no voice. If I pick up the phone, the voice is on the phone, not the built in bluetooth. Outgoing calls seem to always work correctly...it's just incoming calls that sometimes go wacky.

So if you see me with a phone on my ear, it's not because I'm too stupid to hook it up...it's because the mercedes comand (or verizon iphone 4 software) programmers are too stupid to code things so they work.

Does it integrate with the command system?

There is NO EXCUSE to drive and talk on a hand held phone. And yes, you are stupid if you do.
