Bye bye
I personally prefer lighter sports cars for fun (I also have a 993 and a 997.2) and I like a more tactile sort of driving feel. The Cayenne will be a daily all around utility vehicle, plus I like to go into the mountains and explore, hike, etc..
Anyway, I realize this is the W212 forum, but I've been on these boards for a while with some of you who used to also have W211s. It's been fun. Good luck to everybody and adios.
PS I'm with you on Porsche. I've been an owner since 1983 and there simply is no substitute. Hope to see you on the Rennlist boards.
whenever I saw that you posted somewhere I had to read.....
sounds like you have quite the Porche fleet now.....
bet it's a lot of fun....
many thanx for all your help over the past year....
good luck and good health....

Kidding. Congrats. The new Cayenne is so much nicer than the old one. The 997TT is amazing obviously, but I think by the time the 991TT rolls around, you're gonna have quite a decision, the 991 looks fantastic!
Your blood definitely never seemed to mix well with Mercedes. At least you didn't get a BMW (they're trying to do their best Benz imitation lately, so it woulda been a matter of time....).

I checked one out when I went to take a look/drive with a Panamera. I like it a lot more than the previous one, but SUV's are just overly unnecessary for me (hell, even a 4-Door Sedan is technically unnecessary) and I do crave the more dynamic and sharp looks of the Merc, but I do think the Cayenne provides a nice "open canvas" smooth look that with some sprucing up, can turn from very passive to pretty beefy, like yours.
Just checked some ads on some to see what they're selling for, and in typical Porsche fashion, it's night and day between the "normally equipped" ones (which consist of like 99%) and the "rightly Optioned" ones, which totally transform the car. Same deal with the Panamera.

More importantly, I wanted a AWD that could match the acceleration of the CL600 which I was trading in. With the installation of the Fabspeed cat bypass my Cayenne not only sounds mean but accelerates like an SUV shouldn't. I believe Car & Driver recoreded a 0-60 in 4 seconds.
