Extended Warranty Question

I bet you will find that MB's extended warranty program to be better in terms of coverage but also competitively priced as compared to 3rd party warranty companies. Would you rather have no hassel warranty service from the manufacturer or otherwise from a 3rd party company where you may have to fight tooth and nail to have repairs covered and or paid in a timely manner?
Just remember, you can buy MB's extended warranty anytime prior to the original warranty expiring.

bottom line, do your own research and check w/ the service advisers - they know the co's that have many exclusions and should be avoided.

That said I would suggest you try calling some of the California dealers for pricing on extended warranties. I had called several outside of the larger metro areas (forgot the name
) but was able to get an additional 3yr 75k extended warranty for about $2995 and $0 sales tax. Retail at the time for my 2011 E550 cabrio was about $3900. Took this tidbit to my local dealer and he matched it. Actually my dealer reduced it further so when adding NY sales tax it was a wash.

Yes, there are shady companies in the industry. That's why you have to get it from someone you trust, do research, etc if you want to take advantage of the value some of them can offer.
To make blanket generalizations like this however:
I wouldn't touch any such warranty with a ten foot pole.Companies like that are shady and have a way of disappearing...either through bankruptcy or through some kind of fraud. The only extended warranty I'd ever buy is one sold by,and backed by,the vehicle's maker.
....is not really helpful. The two companies I deal with have each been in business over 25 years. They each have an A+ BBB rating. They both are licensed to do business in NY, CA, and FL (as well as the other 47 states), the three toughest states to do business in due to regulations for these types of companies. Quite honestly, they have a higher satisfaction rating than many of the manufacturer ELW plans (according to a JD Power survey some years back). Finally, they are both insured with US companies. So even if they DID go out of business, you could file a claim directly with the insurer and get paid.
To say you'd only buy a plan from the manufacturer is fine, that's totally up to you of course. But please don't throw in the fake generalizations. They do not apply to the companies I work with, or many other companies.
And I'll tell you a little secret. Let's say you buy a new Audi R8. And you only want to buy an Audi extended warranty, so you fork over the big bucks to the dealer for Audi Pure Platinum Protection. Guess who you're actually getting as your warranty company? One of the two companies I represent.....with their brochures and literature re-branded to say Audi Pure Platinum Protection. So even demanding a plan from the manufacturer can put you in with a good 3rd party company!
