2012 E350 4matic
anyone with 2012 impressions over the 2011 E350

I currently have an 09 C63. I am shopping for an everyday driver and one i can drive on the weekends in rain and snow. im set on an E 4matic but i wasnt sold on the 2011 and previous 350 motor. not flaming just saying.

I know the 2012 has some improvements. im wondering if they are enough or if im going to have to splurg on an E550. probably a personal choice but was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation and can offer some insight why they liked the E350 now. Thanks!!! I have been admiring all of your great pics of your Es here! super nice guys.

If you are like me, you will hate driving a slow car as your daily. I test drove a new GTi to supplement my S4 and I could not stand it. Too slow

You will find yourself in certain situations thinking "damn I wish I had my C63!"

It's a whole different car than a C63. To me, when I was shopping my (now 2) E350's, I had C63's to cross shop as well. As fast and fun as the C63's were, it just didn't do it for me, and I felt the E350 was a better car in every which way, subjective and objective, save for a rarely used option of speed, so I went with the E350.

If you think you'll be okay without the adrenaline and raw aspect of the C63, then the E350 should be fine. I find it to be perfectly powered and effortless for every day use. However, it sure won't get your blood flowing like the AMG. A better and more "medium ground" option for you would be the 2012 E350, with a tad more "oomph". However, your best bet, and "best of both worlds" Jekyll & Hyde" approach would be the 2012 E550. The refinement and serenity, with the performance aspect. Power is relative to what you're used to, and being that you're used to a C63, you'll obviously have a different sensation when you hit the gas of a particular car than I do.

If it's speed you're after why not go 550 or even 63?
price may be a factor, but hey it's AMERICA!!! LOL.....

2011 E350 is really slow, coming from a M3. you should look at 550s atleast.

2012 E350 4matic
thanks guys! i appreciate your imput. i need to try out the 2012 350 motor at least. im not needing it to be ANYTHING like my C63. i am just trying to figure out if (as a daily driver) i will be happy with the new 350. if not i might have to pay the beans for the 550 i guess. just wondering how good the new 350 is over the old 350. the old one seemed very UNDER powered to me at least.

The driving feel of the new 350 motor is not drastically different from the old one, especially when coupled with 4MATIC - it is still very anemic. The transmission programming (conservative) and the suspension of the E350 (light and not confidence inspiring) are so far from the setup of the C63 that you'll definitely have to temper your expectations.

The E550 (new or old motor) with AIRMATIC (special order for 2012) will improve things somewhat - the car is quick and launches well with 4MATIC, but still suffers from the lazy transmission.

The E is a great car, but it is far from nimble in non-AMG form.

I would not consider ANY E anemic. Even my Bluetec is far from anemic. 4.2-6.7 (posted by MB) seconds 0-60 is just not anemic by any measure. Another subjective thread, but, anemic to me is anything > 9 secs. I remember when the Audi 5000 was one fo the few 4 door sedans turning in 10 sec. 0-60 times, even from the "lowly five cylinder". We are so damn spoiled today. If speed is what you want, there are many better choices than anything in the E line.

I don't know anywhere that I would want or need 0-60 times of 5 seconds or less...I haven't floored my accelerator in years. my BlueTec has more then enough power and speed to get me out of any real life situation...I can even limp on to an interstate

I agree. I drove a 2012 E350 today, and it's not in any way night-and-day from my E350. You notice the 30 more HP, but it doesn't really change the accelerating experience, as much as just enhances it a bit. In the 30-40 MPH zone, it feels about identical (that kind of deadspace where if you need some snappy acceleration, it's not really there unless you use the paddles to get you into a more optimal gear), but the lower RPM ranges have a noticeably more aggressive kick. It was almost jolty from a stop (when I gave it a moderate, but swift kick) at times.

2012 E350 4matic
i appreciate all the imput and feedback guys. i think MB E class is simply a beautiful vehicle. for someone like me who drives 100 interstate miles round trip 4 days a week, all season, for work, i think a 4matic E would be perfect. i always have my AMG for the nice times in the year on the weekends.

i just need to go test drive one and decide what i want to do. probably not going to be serious for a year or more.... but wanted to hear your feedback on the newer 350 motor, so thank you!
