There are so many variables that impact 0 to 60 times (e.g. tires, temperature, road surface, etc.) that fretting about .2 seconds is overdoing it a bit IMHO. Going to high performance rubber will certainly help by allowing more power to be transferred to the pavement. Especially if you are a real 0 to 60 freak and really launch it properly. I don't personally like BMWs, so I didn't look at one, but don't forget torques. I have no idea of the Bimmer's stats, but the E550 had prodigious amounts of torque at low revs which makes the car feel faster than it is.

PS2s are amazing tires. I used to run them (I've also run Advans and Potenzas), then Michelin one-upped themselves and made a better tire for less $$ in the SuperSports.

Depends on what you are going to use the car for. If it is a suburban cruiser, I'd do 19s just because they look better IMO. If you are going to go on track, 18s are lighter (less rolling weight is good!), cheaper, and tires are cheaper too. Depending on how you drive, high performance tires will last 10 - 15k. So figure if you want to change wheels, you replace tires every year or so anyway so you won't have to wait too long. Ultimately, I'll probably buy 19s, but I'm a 1st time Merc owner and don't know much about the aftermarket for the brand, so I'm going to start with the stock wheels when the car arrives next week.

Porsche 911 Turbo S 2014! E63S 14, Audi S8 13, CLS63 12, E550 12, C63 09, all tuned
Here is a actual event. My son has 2012 550 XI, I have a E550 4matic.
We both got our cars tuned, 550I Dinan to 505hp, E550 Renntech to 530 hp.

Off to the drag strip!

550IX Dinan 13.0 sec qtr mi. 109 mph
E550 4matic Renntech 12.5 sec qtr mi. 113mph

Just some facts

For example, I'm driving a Rental Civic right now, and I have no idea the HP, but assume it's like 140 or so, and this little sh*t's pretty zippy. If no one ever told me the HP stat or inevitably terrible 0-60 time, I wouldn't think of it as some slow snail of a car. The Tranny has it in the right powerband (VTEC YO!) seemingly at all times. If you tap the gas too hard, the car will even have a discomforting "jolt", and I can chirp the peg-leg FWD tire too.

For extreme comparisons sake, my friends GTR, which I've driven, at low RPM's, and around town, is actually kinda sorta sluggish.... A true "beast within, but he won't come out unless you unleash him" situation. If I drove my friends GTR around and kept it under 70 with no acceleration spurts, and considering I don't floor it anywhere or street race, I would never know the HP number or assume that it's such a beast, if no one told me.

Day to day, and with calmed driving manners, I'll say it again, there isn't such a notable difference between the N/A E550 and 268 HP E350. I've driven both, back to back, many many times, and unless I push them in ways I wouldn't in "real life", I'd be hard pressed to notice such a difference. Both have adequate enough torque and power to allow for smooth acceleration, without an engine winding up to absurd noise levels. The V8, more so than power, is mostly notable for that extra bit of smoothness. Now, driving a CLS55 AMG, that was a night and day difference from the get-go, an absolute aggressive demeanor right from the start, and you don't have to really push it to know that there's beast within.

Things that make you go "hmm", ya know?
Hey i like that part about the Shhh civic, you know i traded in my 08' Si sedan and honestly it used to **** me off that the regular auto civics in that same year would zip, zippy past me and im like wtf notec yo is that all about?? HP numbers boggle my mind as well, cos my Si had 197 vs 140 ish for the civic auto and rice to go with that...

If you think a heavy car like the S-550 is quick with only 391 ft/lb of torque, you should
ride in an older diesel like mine that is much lighter and has 369 ft/lbs!

No air ride to go bad either.
A heavy load does not seem to make any difference. Empty or loaded, no change.

Awesome! 12-5 is a great number for a Luxor-cruiser!

2012 E550 Coupe
0-60, 2012 E550 Coupe BiTurbo

My 0-60 is around 4.1 or 4.2. I went head to head with a previous generation Rousch Mustang GT and I took him out in Economy Mode. I also took on a C5 Corvette, we where damn near a even match. My Benz is putting out around 435hp, there's No Way that 402 hp rating is Correct. In Sport Mode, she is an absolute Beast and Blast to drive, we'll that is in any mode.
Forgive me, but I will Smoke a WRX ( I have already ) or an EVO. BMW's don't match Up. A M4 or a M6, in Sport Mode she's Sick !!!!
Believe it or Not, I am going to let RennTech work their Magic on her !!!! Which means that You will have to spend 6 figures to walk away from her and it will take some work!!!!

Love your notes below...My daily is an e550 Coupe, 2013 because last of the shifter on the floor... Can’t stand the shifter on the column...Adding lots of RennTech to my ride, Eurocharge doing the new tune, already added the red aluminum intake box spacers with the high flow filters. Car is underrated in power by Mercedes...I’ve got a set of 2016 AMG turbos off an S63, deciding if I want to go through the trouble of bolting them up. If I go that route, I will probably add the Weinstec cooling upgrades to keep from heat soaking so quickly.

Will add all new DP’s, exhausts all the way back...Including the RennTech SS valved mufflers.

We’ll see how it goes.
