bluetooth meta data
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but I now can see my meta data information on command in spotify, pandora, etc... via bluetooth. This hasnt worked on the iphone in the past. i am not sure if this was an update on the app or the ios software update. 5.01.

On the COMAND screen?
We have the same car and I can't!
Questions:
1. Did you have to set anything in the Engineering Menu or any other menu?
2. Are you untethered or are you connected to the IPOD cable in the glovebox?
3. What IPhone iOS version?

As for the questions:
1. I didn't go into the Eng menu at all. It just worked.
2. Yes, untethered. Streaming straight from BT. Works for MOG, Pandora, iPhone music, etc.
3. I'm now on version 5.1 but it has worked as long as I can recall. My daughter's ipod touch should still be on the previous version; I'll test it out with that and let you know it the version matters. Hubby hasn't upgraded his iPhone either so I'll try both.

Found the Answer
I finally found the answer to why I was not getting bluetooth metadata on my 2011 E using iPhone with iOS 5.1.
Seeing metadata requires AVRCP 1.3 in the COMAND system. The 2011 COMAND supports it.
The iPhone started supporting AVRCP 1.3 in iOS 4.something.
When I first paired my phone, I was using an early iOS that didn't support 1.3.
Once the phone is paired, apparently, it never shares its protocol support again with COMAND, even if it has changed. COMAND simply remembers the phone's remote control protocol level from when it was first paired.
Since I paired the phone before it supported 1.3, no matter how many times I updated the iOS, COMAND never knew it supported 1.3.
The trick was to de-authorize the phone from COMAND and go through the pairing process again from scratch.
So, now I am a happy camper and will be able to get rid of SIRIUS, replacing it with Pandora.
Hope this helps someone else.

Pandora is great. I also like Rhapsody and (less often) ooTunes.

Sadly, re-pairing the phone did not work for me. I have a 2010, so maybe the 2010 COMAND does not support 1.3. Even with the limitation, I use streaming almost exclusively.
Pandora is great. I also like Rhapsody and (less often) ooTunes.

I'm okay with it. If I am desperate to know who/what is playing, it's easy to push the home button on the phone. Now if we could only manipulate the phone audio from COMAND (beyond last-song, next-song)...

My COMAND was updated after the first of this year, so I would assume it would support it if it would support it at all. As for the hardware, I don't know...
I'm okay with it. If I am desperate to know who/what is playing, it's easy to push the home button on the phone. Now if we could only manipulate the phone audio from COMAND (beyond last-song, next-song)...

It's great just to have an alternative to overpriced satellite radio, though, isn't it?
Pandora via the iPhone works great around town and I use a program called tunebite to record hours of Pandora to cd's to use when I'm traveling in those areas where cell phone coverage is spotty. (I live in the desert southwest so they're commone here.) I also believe the quality of Pandora (using the pay version, Pandora One) is better than Sirius.

Even the free Pandora has better sound quality than Sirius! Plus, I can dislike songs and never hear them again. I've got 4 or 5 channels perfectly set for my various moods (instrumental rock guitar with no Steve Vai, heavy electric bass jazz, etc.). It's great!
And, thanks to you, I now know who's playing.

My COMAND unit has the latest firmware as of two months ago which got BT streaming working reliably. I am also able to select the next or previous track from the steering wheel controls. I have not tried it with Pandora. Interestingly, I do not get metadata when just playing local iPhone content.

I was mistaken. Metadata displays for locally stored content (played through the Music app), Pandora and Spotify. It does not display for either the Stitcher or Public Radio streaming apps, but does display for the This American Life app.

Guys I just bought a used 2011 e350 with the P2 package and I am trying to play pandora or spotify via bluetooth but am having no luck. The phone function works great but I have no Idea how to stream music.......PLEASE HELP
