Does your car have polyurethane paint?

That aside, the requirements for finish protection on an airplane (decrease drag, aid de-icing) are different from the requirements for a car (protect against elements, increase shine)

The toothpaste I use may polish my teeth but is completely unsuitable for my car's finish.

There are many proven products out there that are formulated for automotive paints and leathers (by the way, the leathers used in aircraft are more similar to the leathers found on your couch at home than in your car.)

This isn't to say that you cannot find some new product that is equal to or better than what is out there now, but this doesn't appear to be it.

Hyp, I have never heard of it and I would consider myself to be one of the biggest detailing nuts on the forum. I personally, am a "Zaino guy." I have used nothing but Zaino products for the last 13 years, although I have experimented with a lot of stuff. I still remember the first wax I ever used, in 1961, it was called "Vista," I don't even remember who made it but my Dad had always used it so I started using it. That didn't last long. I started experimenting almost immediately. More recently, I even paid $99 for a can of "Pinnacle Paste by Souveran." It was supposed to be a miracle wax. It was a joke!

Over the years, I have also experimented with various Meguiars products, Griots Garage products, 3M products, Zymol products, Adams products, and most recently, Smart Wax from California. None of it comes close to comparing with the ease of use and depth of shine you get from Zaino.

I'm sure there will be various opinions of what works and what doesn't work on this forum. I am not advocating Zaino as some miracle wax/polish, but simply sharing my lifetime experiences with various products. I may even give this Aero stuff a try...I'm always looking for a better product with a better result.

I agree, even though I'm a Menzerna guy, just for the Nano (106F) polish needed for our ceramiclear coats. Zaino does indeed rock!

There are many really good products out there and many (Zaino, Menzerna, Blackfire, Swisswax etc.) have a strong following.

More important than the product (most quality products will give the average detailer a similar result) is the surface preparation. That said, you do have to use a product that is properly formulated for automotive use.

Yes, I agree, paint is delicate these days. I find Iron cut and a good fine clay bar remove quite a bit of contaminants before polishing.

Nope never heard of it.My.02$ for what its worth,,P21s and Klasse.Outstanding products made in Germany for German paint systems.Klasse is a synthetic "concours" wax which goes on with a thin film and you can wipe it right off.Comes in 2 steps,All in One and Sealer. It lasts and last and like I said, award winning. P21s makes a very nice carnuaba,,also made for our paint, and its like the icing on the cake.
Ive tryed Zymol,Meguires and on and on,but for ease of use and long lasting deep gloss, no white film on black plastic and rubber,Klasse and P21s are my fav's since 2002.

FWIW, P21S products are available at motorcycle shops as P100 but are usually much cheaper.

I've found then in several Harley stores. Identical product, just a different name.

Hey Hype,,do you work with polish and wax by hand or use a buffer?I found the Porter Cable 7424 model is a fool proof must have machine,,cuts the time to less than half,,and the results are amazing.
Btw,the only thing I wish my car had is metallic paint. Asked a body shop pal of mine, what a coat of Obsidian bk metallic would be,,,he said about 4k. Sick.

The only way to properly remove imperfections like swirl marks is mechanically using a buffer like the PC.

A proper respray requires removing all glass, molding, interior, engine and wiring and so forth. Even at rock bottom pricing you're looking at ?10-15k and resale value is zero.

I guess he would have to be a really good friend because labor to remove and reinstall glass, molding, engine, interior and the other bits must be more than that. OTOH, a respray taping off bits would be in the $3-4k range and might be OK when respraying the same color.

well, I have not bought a buffer yet because I've never been sure of what to get, but I am open to this recommendation; thanx.....
I should become better at doing my own cars; yes.......
it's not that I'm really afraid, just a bit nervous...is there a difference? lol....
I have always enjoyed keeping my cars clean.......even my ford ltd.....haha

Hahaaa yeah nervous and and scared are different,,generally nervous comes first
But yeah,,the random orbital action of the machine I mentioned makes it a breeze,,you dont get that awful burned swirly mark you can easily get with a regular rotary buffer.Small and lite weight affording one hand usage. And no need to press down.

Well they come in Micro fiber which is what I like to use(for removing wax and polish) And the application pad is usually foam spongy stuff.Once you start viewing one of the many detailing sites out there,,you'll see what u want to use.Heres one Ive used,,there are many others

Hoo-boy....

Pads come in different levels of abrasiveness and are matched to the problem you are trying to correct and the product you are using. The pads are color coded. You start with the least abrasive product and pad that you believe will fix the problem and go from there. The advantage of Porter Cable buffers is that you have to try real hard to screw up.

You'll want to spend some time on a detailing site like Autopia before you start buying stuff. Figure on spending $300-400 to get started but once bought it'll keep you going for life.

AGREE. I am a Zaino user as well however when I do my once a year full detail clay bar and buffing, I prep with Menzerna. I also went down your route as well with a trial of Pinnacle Paste. While it was OK, I wasted $100 -- it was quickly back to Zaino

I have to thank the forum members who have discussed claying cars. I was skeptical this would take off some rough contaminants, but it worked like a charm. My surface is nice and smooth. I Purchased maquiers clay kit for about 20 dollars.
