Ordered a 2012 E550 4M, want to change tires.

I told the dealer I didn't want the Pirelli Nero tires or the Continental tires whichever one comes with the car. My search on Tire Rack didn't rate either of these tires very well. The dealer said they would switch them for me but I have to tell them what I want.

I'm considering the Michelin Pilot sport AS tires but have noticed the Bridgestone Potenza RE 970 AS Pole Position. I want an peformance all season tire. Has anyone had any expereince with these in terms of wear, handling and general satisfaction. Also want to know the downsides.

Is there another tires manufacturer and actual tire you would recommend from your experience.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had Bridgestone RE960's (on a Lexus ES), which the RE970s are suppose to be an improvement on. Car handled great but too noisy for my taste on the highway.

by checking tirerack, the highest rated all season tire for your car is bridgestone potenza re970as pole position (ultra high performance all season) which has 9 and michelin pilot super sport (max performance summer) has 9.2. i've never experienced neither so i can't comment on them. just wanted to give you the above info as reference.

I can't see a dealer swapping tires for something that isn't OE to the model you bought.

I found Potenza too noisy and worn too fast. Actually I do not trust tirerack reviews much.

Thanks for thr replies but I guess everyone's dealer is different. I my case, they are willing to swap tires for what I want, this is why I'm asking you guys what the overall best tire has been in your experience other than the Continentals and Pirellis on my 2012 E550?

The car will be arriving Mar 24 so they want me to tell them what I want.

This. I can't imagine this myself either. The car normally comes in from Germany with tires already.

Okay, I give up.

I can see there's no use proceeding with my request for information as no one believes what I say anyway.

Thanks again.

I understand what you are saying - but - I'm not sure that the dealer can install tires that didn't come as OE from Mercedes. Are they willing to accept warranty liability?

What is the dealer going to do with the tires that come off your car?

The Conti actually has very good reviews even from Tirerack and German tests

In that regard, pose your question in the Tire discussion thread BUT don't write that the dealer is willing to change your tires. Just simply ask what is the better between the two choices. You will get the answers there ....

I have the Michelin pilot sport a/s plus's on an Acura, and i'm not sure it's a great match for an E class. They handle reasonably well, but are noisy and not particually comfortable.
