To Buy Or Not To Buy Service Contract?
I'd like to hear your Pro and Con opinion on Prepaid Service offered by MBZ. $767 for 3 years by dealer where I bought my car.

I did
Main reason I did it was to protect myself from price increases by dealer or MBUSA. Could call it insurance.
My dealer has been very good about providing all services he normally would for each service. Keeps me loyal.

Make sure you do it before "A" service is due.

I purchased a pre paid service contract.. I leased my car 30/months, they tried to sucker me into getting a "3 service" deal.. i said since im returning the car in 30 months and most likely will have about 28K miles, why should i pay for the 3rd service? Soo they deducted that, and i basically just pre paid for service a and b done at 10 and 20k miles.

Raymond,
You are driving a Bluetec correct? If so and you don't want to add your own DEF then I would go for it. I just bought a '12 BlueTec and the dealer first told me the $767 number I believe for 3yrs but then balked as it was a diesel and said it would be $10XX I think. I said no thanks. Validate that includes the BlueTec fills and flushes though (it should as its a required service). OTH when we bought out '09 BlueTec ML there was no increase for the diesel so I ended up buying 5yrs/50k for $2,900. Still feel a bit ripped off on that one but at least i dont need to worry about it. On the E-class I plan to just slowly add the DEF myself. Not sure if I will do the flush at the 20k services.
What are the other diesel drivers paying for their services? Especially at the 20s when you replace the fuel filter and should do the DEF tank flushes as well...

i have the 3 yrs plan and probably not cheaper than have those services done by some reputable shops but just peace of mind. however, i think most of the members here wouldn't want to go back to the dealer for any service after the plan is expired. total rip-off.

I agree in general the dealers are over priced typically by double from what I've seen on service A/B anyway compared to a reputable indi shop. Generally I have taken my cars to dealer service until out of warranty. However I bought the warranty on both my current vehicles so am covered up to 7yrs 100k and 7yrs 125k. Don't see myself going to the dealer that long. Anyone ever had issues getting warranty work performed when the services have been completed at indi shops?

I went to dealer today and found out as you mentioned 3 years PPM is $1467 for BlueTec. So I walked out not buying it. Thanks for advance information.

If you lease it is worth it as you can residualize it into a lease. I got it for my , CLS, E and C coupe. I basically paid for 3 year service for only 30-33% of the retail cost of the service depending on the car. For example, on the C it cost about $10 a month for 3 year 30K mile service, which is what it would cost over time at a reputable, independent mechanic.

Fuel filter I have no idea on the pricing but I am assuming the dealership charges $200-300? I know in the 80s was easy to change the 1 filter yourself anyway but I am sure times have changed. Still doesn't seem to justify almost double...
