Curb Rash!!
I am not happy and just had to vent.
I'm drying off my new E this weekend and notice some damage on the front driver's side wheel. Nice Scrap about 4 inches by 1/4 inch right on the lip..e
The car is like 2 weeks old
So I ask my wife: Honey did you scrape the wheels up against a curb darling??
Answer: No... I walk away
5 minutes later wife says: I thought it was just the tire that hit the curb, is there a problem??
I've been married some 24 years so I'm no dope. I waited before I answered: Why add fuel to the fire? The damage is done. Why get Wifey all worked up? I just sucked it up and swallowed.
I'm afraid I know the answer but is there any way MB can fix this? Do they have to redo the whole wheel? How much does something like this cost? I should include a picture here but I'm away from the car at this time. I'll take a photo later and post but thought it would make me feel a little better if I could share my pain.
Any opinions or condolences would be appreciated. Thanks

You can have your wheel fixed but it will happen again. Unless you put your car in a museum, it will inevitably get a scratch, a ding, a dong, a rash, a dent, a ping, a pong.
You'll just have to get over it.

Without pics , it's hard to tell if it's an easy fix or not but you don't need to lose sleep for it . Such things can happen

I realize I will get a few dings here and there but I haven't even gone through my first tank of gas.
Can't the car be "NEW" for just a little while longer??

Well, to make you feel more relief I have to say that you should be kinda lucky considering your car didn't suffer any damage from transportation .
At least you reckon you buy brand spanking new but in inspection at the service they say " Hey, this car got some damage and painted "
This could be a huge disappointment .

I've only curb rashed my passenger side front wheel, but when I did hit the curb, not only did I get a nice 6" scrape on the outer part of the rim, the front bumper also had a nasty scrape across the side. Considering the car was black, the white long scrape on the side of my bumper looks like sh**. Sadly, sh** happens and for me, I learned to give up. The dealer won't charge for the curb rash and I used up all my Dr. Colorchip touch up paint on the side of the bumper. It's only visible if you look close or at nighttime, but during the day, it looks fine. My car only has 5K miles and it's been through a new windshield, a new tire, a gazillion rock dents on the front of the car, rear bumper scrape from the dealer, curb rash, swirls, random key marks, etc. Stuff happens on every new car. You'll get over it, but if you don't, take it to the dealer. They usually bring in a third party person to fix stuff like that.

Not that this would help but I think some tires and wheels offer a certain degree of protection from this. My standard profile wheels allow the tire to come out a bit to protect the wheel There is a bit of a "lip" around the wheel formed by the tire. I've touched the curb a few times and horrified I got out only to see the tire "lip" is actually offering some cushioning to prevent the wheel from touching the curb...

Dont worry. Its a cheap, easy, permanent fix

the thinner the tires or bigger the rims, the higher the chance something like this happens unfortunately. just have it fixed and take away the key from your wife. your life will be happier.

What a great price! I need to find someone like that in the DC area. Though my wheels tires seem to offer some protection I think it is only a matter of time... I need to find someone like your wheel guy... Does he have a brother in DC?

Well, I've been married 30 years. I NEVER let my wife drive my car! I get lots of flack from her co-workers, but, I also don't have curb rash. Oh ya, I also bought her a B200 to keep her quiet

I tell my wife she can drive the benz but she usually takes the 4runner. She says she is scared to damage the E cause of my reaction. She has a bad record for dinging up cars. If she would tell me when it happens instead of finding out later it would lessen the pain somewhat.

who cares what her co-workers/friends said. a lot of time they are saying something like this is because of jealousy. even if you let your wife drives your car, they'll still say how come you don't get her one. even if you get her one and they'll say how come you don't get her a s-class. never ends. you are your wife's husband and she is your wife. do what both of you guys are happy with. other people? they better clean up/mind their own crap before telling others what to do.

My Girl will NEVER drive my car! She doesn't even want to due to how **** I am about it. Lol. If someone's gonna damage the car, chances are it'll be while in my possession.

I had the wife drag the side of my Audi across the side of the garage once. When I asked her to come out and take a look at it she asked me why "I" did that.
You just have to rub the scratch out and go back to loving them, but I guess you already knew that.

Yup, just thrashed my tire and wheel against the side of a curb with a piece of metal protruding out of it.
And I DID IT DAMMIT!!

The tread seems got hijacked. I would be more interested in how to fix rash than in complains about wife. A real man shouldn't complain about wife, she should complain about him.

Oddly enough, my curb rash from today happened in the same general area as the only other time I rash'd my wheel (right above the AMG Plaque). I'm just dealing with it. $400 for a new tire (and all 4 tire insurance) was almost enough beating up myself on today.

You've got to take a bad situation and turn it around to your advantage. Between me and my wife, we managed to get curb rash on three wheels several months after we got our car. Notice how I said it's our car not mine.
I never was partial to the stock wheels so instead of paying about $200 to repair each wheel, I (not we) decided to upgrade to matte black 19's. Did this when my wife and kids went to my in-laws for a week. Wife came home with no complaints on the upgrade.

If it makes you feel better my wife curb rashed the front passengers rim when our car was about 5 months old ... she felt soooo bad but fortunately this car is not my baby (if it was the Porsche it would suck) ... meanwhile a month later I hit the curb and Rashed the same wheel as well as the rear wheel too

I like your solution ... your car looks great with those wheels

When I first got my 2010 (my first W212), I took it out for a cruise on a Sunday afternoon. A long weekend of work, and I wanted to take my new, crisp, rare-at-the-time E out and feel like a million bucks. Whilst doing so, I decided to stop at the BMW Dealership to get a first glimpse at what was then the just released F10 5-Series. The crappy Dealership had no parking available, so I had to park on the street, and while trying to get my car as close to the curb as possible.... SCRAAAAAAAPE!!!! I'd never heard such a nasty curb-rash sound. It was so bad that the car was almost stuck in that position. I was beyond pissed. Both rims, btw.
Story of my life (doing OCD things to try and protect my car, and then collaterally damaging it MUCH worse than what I'm trying to protect it from.... which is generally just in my head, anyway.... can't even say how often that's happened.... happened just last week again, lol).
