Not sure about the 2012, but is there a button on the left side of the headlight dial? If so, press it...LED fogs will be on during the day.

turn on the driving lights...it's an option that you can change..check the manual. Don't use the rear fog light switch (to the left of the light rotary switch on the dash) which also lights your drivers side tail light and your dash lights.

The headlights are white by design because you see better with white light than with blue light.

If you leave your headlights in the ON position, the button to the left of the headlight switch should toggle your LED's on and off.

They do in my 2012.

The US vehicles may be wired differently from my CDN one though. We have mandatory daytime running lights (the LED's), so they are always on unless you turn them off manually with that switch.

I hope this helps.

I don't get what you are asking because you seem to be mixing up your lights here. The long white strip of lights in the bumper underneath your headlamps are your Daylight Running Lights ("DRL") which use the white light-emitting diodes ("LED") bulbs. Your car is 2012 so this should be a straight strip, while other older cars (2010 and 2011) have a hockey stick shape. The LEDs are simply low itensity indicator lamps and they are NOT fog lamps. The LEDs turn on automatically together with your regular headlamps. (Well, at least for my car which has a P2 package 2012 E350). I do not touch my light switch and leave it in the "Auto" mode. In this mode, the sun sensor underneath the windshield automatically detects sunlight and turns off the headlamps. Whenever I enter my garage or whenever it gets dark, the sensor turns on the headlamps. Hence it is Auto.

My fog lights (perhaps yours too) which are used for foggy situations are not the LED lights and are not found in the bumpers like typical cars. The fog lights are located beside the headlamp at the same level but toward the middle of the car. The fog lights do not turn on automatically but can be switched on by pressing (not turning) the button on the left side of the lamp switch. However, whenever I turn on my fog lamps, my LED (DRLs) turn off. As such, the LED (DRLs) do not work in tandem with the fog lamps. If they do then I have yet to discover how they do.

Finally, your headlamps lamps are indeed white and not blue. Blue lights are higher intensity Xenons that are only sold aftermarket and fancied by those that add aftermarket bulbs. They are an exageration of factory xenon lamps. To my knowledge, there are no Mercedes vehicles with these type of blue bulbs. If there are then I have yet to see them.

unless I am mistaken you can turn your DRL on and off using the command menu.

I do not think so because in Canada, you are required to have Daylight Runnin Lights always. If indeed you can, I would be curious where in the COMAND can you find this option.

This is correct. Look for "Switching the Daytime Running Lights On/Off" in the manual. This Comand DRL control option is not available in Canada.

When activated through Comand and the main light switch is in "A" position, the DRL's will activate automatically in the daytime at full
intensity when the engine is turned on. At night or at other times when the headlights are on, the DRL's should also be on, but at reduced intensity.

The above is for vehicles with the P2 package. I'm not certain, but I've read that others who have the P1 package can't get the DRL's to function this way.

I was wondering about this myself. I noticed the button on the left side of the switch only turns on one side in the rear. I was going to mention this to the dealer when I bring it in for a checkup. This is normal???

Normal. That is the rear fog light. Should be on the driver's side rear.

Every two or three years someone in the MB forums asks this exact same question about the "rear fog light." So here we go again. Cars in Europe and Great Britain are required by law to have a single rear fog light. They are located only in one rear side so as be distinct and not be mistaken for the brake lights. Their purpose is to provide drivers the ability to see vehicles they are following during low visibility weather conditions such as dense fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, or smoke. Seeing them also provide the drivers sufficient time to avoid a rear end collision. Rear fog lights are normally bright glowing red and since the 1990s have been standard on BMWs, Volvos, MBs, Audis that were imported to the US where they are legal. (They should not be turned on during regular weather though). My older 1998 Mercedes already had them but it involved a sequence to turn it on. The front fog lamps must be turned on first and then the rear fog lamp. You cannot turn on the rear fog lamp if the front fog lamp is not activated.

New car owners who are not familiar with these always complain about them with dealers and some dealers actually don't know about them. Some even put them on both sides to satisfy the car owner and they end up looking like the brake lights are permanently on.

Not true any more, at least on e350's with P2...you can turn on the rear fog lights at any time

Interesting so it appears the fog lights are independent from the LED DRLs? If that is the case, I don't quite understand why Canadian cars with mandatory DRLs have eliminated fogs.

It will be nice if there is a way to convert my Canadian W212 to US front lighting specs. On our cars, we simply don't even have the front fog button, only the rear.

Wow! This was complicated..
On my E class it's like this:
The rear fog-light can be shut on and of with a button, the front fog-lights must not be on when the rear fog-light is on and wice versa.
Both front and rear fog light are shut on and of with two different buttons beside each others.
In the bumper furthest out are the daytime running lights (drl) and the other ones is the front fog-lights.

On Canadian cars, when I turn on the lights, we have the main head lights, the little small high beam lights dimmed (US fog lights), and the dimmed DRLs under the bumper all on. If I turn on the rear fogs, the dimmed DRLs shut off.

Complicated yes!

Okay, so it's like this. The DRL on the 2012 E350 can be toggled on/off with the steering wheel buttons. This will allow them to be on constantly. When driving in the daytime they will be on and no other exterior lamps will be on. When the light sensor detects night time, the low beams will come on and the DRL will also stay on. You cannot have the DRL go off automatically when the head lamps come on. Pushing the fog light button to the left of the headlamp switch will actually turn off the DRL lights and turn on the rear fog lamp. Unless you have a P2 package car there are no front fog lamps. It can be confusing to switch the fog lamp button on and have the lower DRL light switch off and turn the fog lamp button off and have the DRL turn on again but that is how it is supposed to work.

That button turns off the DRL's, but it also turns on the rear fog light.

hmsherer: My understanding is that if you have the Xenon lights, there are no fog lamps in the front.

Hmsherer has a 2014. 2014's dont have Xenons, all 2014s are LED headlights with DRLs built-in.
