Things blocked from your line of sight by the B-pillar can be viewed through your side mirror if it is adjusted properly. Seating position relative to the b-pillar is a bit of an issue too.

You have 3 options....

1. Rather than turning your head and having the B pillar block your view....lean your head forward towards the side mirror to check your blindspot.

2. Purchase the mini convex mirrors and stick them to your side mirrors.

3. Purchase OEM MB Euro version convex side mirrors for the w212.

I did option #3 to both of my side mirrors...both sides are heated...and the driver side is auto-dimming....exact features of my US versions.

i thought it was just me and didn't bring up this topic. not sure why the b pillars on this car is wide and thick. i'm using phml's option 1 but his option 3 is really tempting .

I think why B pillar is thick because of side airbags or body structure for safet reasons . It's good to have thick pillars you can eliminate blind spot problem as suggested
Cruze is also too think for it's size ,at least thicker than Jaguar but for some reason I like the way it feels lol

Where did you purchase your OEM Euro version convex mirrors for the W212. I used to have this for my W210 but I bought it from Steve Krabenborg, who someone no longer posts in the forums.

Be prepared for severe sticker shock. You may find that running into cars may be cheaper.

Yeah, I should be ready for that. My W210 side mirrors were not cheap either, even if I bought them from Steve. But that extended convex feature helped me a lot and my mirrors were folding too so I liked that. I am actually planning to sell those mirrors in the W210 forum. If there is one thing about the W212 that I am not particularly fond of is the side mirrors. They are small, and don't provide a lot of side vision. They also do not auto tilt when you go into reverse unlike the W210 mirrors. That was a handy feature to make sure your wheels don't rub into the curb when you park.

Well....removing the side mirror was the hardest part.

Installing the convex mirrors was a breeze.

The passenger side mirrors do tilt when you are in reverse for the w212....I use it everyday.....you just have to set and save it in memory when in Reverse gear....and while in reverse, the passenger side red LED should be selected. If the driver-side red LED is selected when in Reverse, it won't tilt.

Oh, okay. I didn't know that. I guess it was always set on the driver side mirror hence I never noticed the tilt when I put the car in reverse. Thats good to know.

Wrong...only the 2012 W212 passenger side mirror tilts when in reverse. 2011 passenger side mirror does NOT tilt when in reverse.

The best things in life are free:

ttoE550: Simply click the mirror adjustment directional pad to the DRIVERS side when you have the car in reverse.

mine is 2010 and it tilts. not sure about 2011 but i highly doubt that mercedes would remove this feature for one year and put that back on in all 2012. that feature has been out for years. have you turned that on the passenger's side, not the driver's side?

My bad...I can get passenger side to tilt but CAN NOT get driver side to tilt in and down when backing up. I believe the 2012 allows both but prior years are limited to passenger side only.
