Pano roofs are always noisy, I like the look of them but I avoid them like the plague. On top of that, pano roofs place extra weight on the roof, that is the last place one would want to add weight, on top of the car's center of gravity.

Was not aware they put them in their SUVs. I know they don't exist in their sedans.
Interestingly enough, a Grand Cherokee built on the ML Chassis seems solid as a rock when driving it (but again, new).

Anyone got pics where to lube and what lube to use? So we know what to do without going to $$$ hungry dealer service? That info would help many people here. I have pano roof but didn't hear any noises yet.

Got mine back, sans rattling and creaking noises. I got the part #s around here somewhere, will post them up...
Or not. all I have is the following:
"Able to isolate noise to the left side of roof. Lowered head liner included the removal of A,B, and C-Pillars
. Removed all hardware holding head liner in place. When tested again, noise was produced by the movement between sunroof frame and body."
"Applied Thread Lock to all screw hold frame and secured frame to vehicle. With headliner still out, road tested again and noise was no longer present. Head liner was installed."
Um. It took one tech most of the day to tear the top half of the car apart and two guys on a test drive to isolate the noise. Best of luck...

Mine popped the other day, sounded like someone shot at the glass. I did it when it was colder. Should I be concerned? Where do that sound come from? Love the car tho id never buy anything else, unless its E63 AMG lol

The video that DEAD CIVIC put up is, for me, the definitive guide to a DIY solution. One does not need to take out the entire headliner! I only took out the rubber door seals, upper B-pillar covers, and the rear hand grabs. Then I gently pried down a section of the headliner enough to tighten the six T30 screws (one of which was barely finger tight). Voila! No more popping sounds!
It's a tight space for sure, and a low-profile T30 wrench is required, but it is entirely doable for anyone who is passably handy, like change-your-own-oil-and-filter handy.

Going through this right now. Same issue on my 12 e63. Once in a while a very loud pop or cracking noise from the roof near the rear. Like a stone hitting it.
Just got a call back from the dealership where it is in for service. Said that they would need to dismantle the whole headliner to get at the frame and if there was nothing broken but it merely needed adjusting that I would have to cover the 5 hrs of labor it took to dismantle!
Adjustments to get rid of this kind of noise is not covered by warrantee?
Going to have to go somewhere else.

Okay issue seems to be resolved. Covered under warranty. If any of you are having this issue and live in Northern NJ go to Globe MB the main shop guy is aware of the problem. From Paper work:
Origin of noise 42180-42185 Noise from center Panoramic roof. Removed Headliner for access and found cross support bar mounting bolts loose. Removed and applied loc-tite to threads and re- installed
from timing logged on paper work it seems about 1.5 to 2 hours of labor costs. Issue seems to have been resolved..

I have a 2012 E350 CPO. It was doing the same thing. second trip to the dealer fixed it. They didn't list a TSB. It say cause " loss of torque" Says they removed the head liner, roof console, trim, and side air bags and used loc-tite on all bolts. My service guy said they removed the whole sun roof, tightened all the bolts and re installed the sun roof. I actually recorded the noise for them, since the first time they didn't hear it
Got mine fixed on Wednesday, here is what it says
R&R over head control panel, rear view mirror, left and right grab handles, left and right sun visors, headliner. Re-tightened sun roof rails.
I think there is an OP CODE 681611 (not sure though), the service advisor said that is a service bulletin out on how to fix it but no recall.
Mine is still under warranty and it was fixed at no cost to me.

I will be taking her in to get this covered under warranty; anyone know the exact TSB on this?

I waited until it got really bad. dealer fixed it right away. it was so bad that you couldn't make any elevated turns (turning into a driveway up the slope...). Dealer knew what to do right away. They said loose bolt.... the question is when will it return and how much will they charge me when i'm out of warranty.............

To all those who fear the high cost, I want to say that if you're even remotely handy and have the correct tools (that aren't specialized nor expensive), you can complete this repair in an hour or less. It's really not a difficult task.
Of course, if you can get the dealer to do it for free, well, what's not to like?

To all those who fear the high cost, I want to say that if you're even remotely handy and have the correct tools (that aren't specialized nor expensive), you can complete this repair in an hour or less. It's really not a difficult task.
Of course, if you can get the dealer to do it for free, well, what's not to like?
