front license plate

Does anyone know if the dealer tells the factory to put on the front license plate, do dealers do it, or does it depend on the dealer? I ordered my car and told them specifically not to put a license plate on the front bumper. I will remind them again about it as we get closer to delivery.

Thanks!

I am guessing that it depends on if the state requires a front plate. If you tell the dealer no, they s Gould honor the request.

I live in PA. It is not required. I am trying to understand at what point it happens.

They should not install the bracket then. I live in NC, it is not required here either and the dealer did not install the bracket. It is in the trunk with the spare tire. Your dealer should be able to confirm this for you.

I would think that the dealer installs it and further I would think they are required to do so if the state they operate in requires front plate.

Coincidentally I just removed mine. I bought my car in VA where the front plate is required but in my current state it is not. I took it off and drilled the screw holes to 3/16" size and installed that size hole plugs that I first painted with car color. Looks a lot better than the ugly empty bracket.

I had to fix four holes. The bracket had only two screws but they had used too long screws for the plate. Tips of these two screws had panatrated thru the bracket in the paint so I had to drill them too.

If they have to install the plate make sure they use short enough screws for the plate itself so you have only two holes to plug if you deside to remove it later.

in california, it is required.

but installation depends on the dealer. for example, ive seen new cars at dealers with the bracket installed and ive seen new cars with them uninstalled.

Fletcher jones does not install the bracket on new cars until you purchase/take delivery. at that point, they give you the option...they can install it for you or you can leave it off (they make you sign a waiver saying you know it is against the law in CA to drive without a front plate and if you get cited, they are not liable). they provide the bracket in the trunk with the spare tire.

Come to think of it, my wife's CLK originally titled in FL, did not have the front plate bracket installed either. I am almost certain that this is a dealer installed item as others have stated. The dealer should be able to tell you.

The front plate comes from the factory in the trunk and is installed by the dealer - usually during PDI.

A quick walk around your dealer's lot should confirm that they either do or do not install front plates.
To everyone who didn't read everything, bigh123 lives in a single plate state.

Bought brand new and the dealer did not install front plate, I didn't request it or sign a waiver. I creased the middle of the plate and stuck it on with double sided foam tape. I tried pulling it off and its not going anywhere.

That appears to be a nifty alternative to those who are required to display and don't want to test the threshold of law enforcement by not displaying a front plate.

Kind of unique.
