Hi,
I have a 2013 E Sport Wagon on order with the black ash wood trim and grey/ash seats . Iridium silver exterior
Does anyone have a good closeup picture of what that black ash looks like? Or comments from those that have seen it?
The brochure has a tiny pic but very hard to see. My SA says it looks like "wet cement" (not good) but I'm thinking with the grey seats/door pieces and the black sport dash/carpet/headliner, it might be the best looking combo.
Thanks for any pics or comments.
I'm hoping it has less plastic coating than the burl walnut/ less shine...
I wish there was an open pore ash option on E's.

I used to have E class with Black Ash wood and it looks much better IMO, especially with Ash seats. Here is the pic how it will be :

that shows the big view.
Anybody have closeups of the black ash?
Or know where there might be pics on this board as someone suggested??
i prefer black ash. looks amazing and like Solid stated... black wood with gold swirls. BUT it is shinny and def not an "open pore" look. you can order open pore looking wood but only with disigno package. and thats pretty costly IMO. black ash is your only option over burl so if you dont like burl your choice is pretty much made. plus on your interior color choice id say black ash is your best bet.
I like the black ash just fine, but I agree, it would be nice to have some more choices
when spending the money.....
other car brands have some sweet choices: matte wood, teak, etc....
It is on the glossy side of the spectrum, but still looks good....mine is black on black though....
good luck

I have it with an almond interior and it is gorgeous. The grain pattern is very tight and sometimes hard to see. In many lighting conditions it looks like piano black unless you get really close. In other lighting conditions the beautiful gold colored grain pops out.

Don
I am burl walnut fan but black ash wood used in MB is cooler than that . I am not upset for not opting burl

Mine.
Wet cement? I don't think so! As said above, the grain is there, but hard to see in pix. I lightened this shot up a bit, so the grain is visible, but only barely.
In person, the grain on mine is more visible, but does not overpower the wood. In fact, thanks to others here I just realized the grain is gold-toned!!
I think your interior will be beautiful.

I don't get the matte wood at all. But then I don't get matte paint either
Our C63 had the black ash wood with light grey leather. Loved the contrast. We did however find that the light leather did require a certain amount of attention. Never had any permanent stains but they did show soiling rather quickly.

black ash wood with light grey leather is the exact setup on my E.
and you're right. i use this car once a week at most, but my driver's seat still show some soiling.
the smooth wood is very nice....
imagine a glossy/finished chest of drawers versus a non glossy finish....
sure, it's just preference........but those 'matte' finishes are sooo nice to me....
kind of reminds me more of actual wood finish.......
I recal CEB posting some stuff about the old school wood splintering and hurting people
in accidents........
guess that's why we have the wafer trim now

Got another pic from the door trim. Sorry for the dust, but shows more grain. The different light makes the wood change and at night it's almost flat black. I love it. Should look nice with the color you chose, but I prefer the black leather, personally.

I hope this shows up from my photobucket--direct link.
Since I made the original post, I've gotten my E350 with black ash and
couldn't be happier with the choice.
I love the look and it has many looks, depending on light conditions.
