550 Engine 4.6 or 4.7L
OK I am confused... On the MB website the E550 is listed as 4.6L engine so is on other official docs such as datacard etc., but under the hood the sticker that list emissions info says 4.7L. I see 4.7L listend also on edmunds and other automotive sites... what is up with that discrepancy?

Thanks for clarification, Nardo... Round up, round down, yeah, I've noticed the car industry as a whole is inconsistent when it comes to releasing "official" specs like this one. IMO, logical choice would be just to round up to 4.7 across the board, but oh well... Another thing I might add that I can't seem to wrap my brain around is the fact that the 2012 MY E63 isn't a 6.3L, but a 5.5L (M-B choosing to go from a naturally-aspirated 6.3 to 5.5 biturbo)...so why not call it an E55? Keeping it E63 just seems to add to the confusion of what's really under the hood. For the most part, I thought model names were suppose to correlate to the size of the engine (pretty much a general rule of thumb, right?)...

Its been way off for a while now. Like the c200 and c250. Both are a 1.8 turbocharged motor, just different specs and equipment. The 63 has to do with racing history of amg and thats why they are sticking with that for now. Also for some going back to 55 would feel like a step back and thats also why. The slk has always been 55 and therefore still now, thats one of the few where you can actually see what engine size it is. And the 350cgi which is a 3,5 v6.

bmw does the same. i wonder how many bmw owners know the real engine size of their 750 and 760.
mercedes' 550 (E550, S550) is only used in north america, i think. in the rest of countries, they are just 500... i.e. E500, S500... but they are the same cars...

What about the horse power. E and CLS class are rated at 402 HP... Same engine on the S and SL class is given 429 HP. Is it just matter of tuning. I am guessing I can also over clock to 429 because 402 HP is not enough LOL

it will have to do with weight... they are similar in accelleration. Of course also if you spend that much more on an S-class you shouldnt be outrun by a CLS or E-class
